HIV was a huge safety issue when I was working.  Apparently intentionally infecting someone with HIV can be pled down to a misdemeanor.

Man who knowingly gave partner HIV given 6-month jail term

SAN DIEGO - A man who knowingly infected another man with the AIDS virus was sentenced Monday to nearly six months in jail.

It's the first time in California that the 20-year-old statue has led to a guilty verdict or plea, Braun said.

Guerra was sentenced to 179 days in jail under the terms of probation he
said he refused to accept
, but which the judge imposed anyway.

With meds to put into recession and multiple people completely cured it will hopefully be a thing of the past.

Then I guess HIV isn't as deadly as you thought.

I guess it isn't.  I would have thought that intentionally infecting someone with HIV would be more than 179 days in county jail though.

Remember the Florida dentist who purposely infected 6 of his patients? Dr. Acer?

It's sort of turned into a manageable long-term chronic illness for many patients (if they take the medicine).  The regimes and highly-active anti-retrovirals are MUCH better now than what they used to be.

We don't see nearly the horrors of full-blown AIDS that we did in the late eighties and early nineties.

Yeah, it was crazy back then.  It really was a death sentence.

I'm with the op, there should have been a stiffer penalty. To me deliberately infecting someone with HIV should be considered attempted murder at the least.

Should have gotten life in prison.

Actually the victim should have been allowed to kill him, but failing that, life is the only reasonable sentence.
