I am moving. I have been dying to get out of this place and I have been really excited about moving to my new place. So Friday is to be The Day. I ordered a new gun safe for delivery, I scheduled movers to come get my shit, I packed all of my shit, I scheduled my services to be transferred and everything. Then I get a call this morning.
The guy living in my apartment broke his foot moving and still has all his shit in his apartment. He is going to try and be out by the end of the day, but now I can't get my keys on Friday like I was supposed to. I have to wait a day...meaning that I have to reschedule my movers and my safe delivery, and my friends coming by to help out because the movers are only taking the big shit. I'm pretty pissed, and I don't feel like a dick for being pissed off. You break your foot then you better be on the horn to your brother, or your buddy, or picking up a couple Mexicans at the Home Depot...but get your shit done. |

Yes, but you gotta remember - if you're renting, you're at the mercy of the landlord.

Who is paying for this portion of the month? Is your rent being prorated?

Why can't he pile all of his shit in one spot (living room, maybe), and you pile all of your shit in a different spot (one of the bedrooms?). Take turns bringing stuff in/taking stuff out.

The only moves I've had that didn't have last minute snags, are houses that were unoccupied when we bought them.
|
|
I'd probably offer to go help the guy get his stuff out.
But that's just me. |

if you don't want to deal with roommate drama, don't have roommates?

Do you even break a foot bro? Shit happens...broke foot HURTS LIKE HELL...I am sure he's got a lot of hurt going on...cut him some slack...

Yes, I'd be pissed off. Fuck that guy. Call him up and tell him you'll give him a hand at moving. Go over there and just toss all of shit out the front door and then move your stuff in.
But yeah, I'm always be pissed too so... |

If if an apartment complex just tell them to give you a different unit.

View Quote What does the lease say regarding move in take possession of? IMO The landlord / lease company OWES you for the cost of move, time lost in new place etc. Not to mention i'd be unloading non essential items over there NOW. Tell them So Sad, Too Fuckin Bad. |

"Wow, sorry to hear about YOUR problem, but my contract says in by XXXX. It isn't about to become your and MY problem."

Just so I understand, you're moving into an apartment on the same day someone else is moving out of it?
That's as fucked up as a football bat. Any apartment I've ever lived in I had THOROUGHLY cleaned before my stuff got anywhere near it. |

It's an apartment. move it yourself. you don't need no stinking movers. save money buy more ammo

You know that broke-foot boy isn't going to clean the place before he's out, and the LL needs time to fix stuff in between tenants. Also, if I were broke-foot boy I'd be concerned about no final walk-through (ok hobble through?) before you move in, or you could cause damage and attribute it to the prior tenant. ETA: since your new landlord/management company is showing themselves to be thoroughly incompetent even before your tenancy starts, do a walk-through of your own, with video and pictures, showing the condition of the property before you move anything into it. |

NO Way I'd move into a rented appartment the same day the previous drug/bug/virus infested POS moved out. |

Your moving into another place without a thorough cleaning, paint etc? Fuck that.

I always try to extend the consideration/leniency that I would appreciate being given to me and have done so many times.
