Carjacking is considered a violent felony in most states and may be dealt with accordingly.

No weapon seen. A weapon isn't necessary for a threat to be present, especially if the perp is going for the gun.

CCW guy escalates by engaging with a gun. NOT even close to what would be considered escalation. He came to the aid of a woman being preyed upon by a violent felon. Bad guy reacts; presumably to defend self. Once you are in the midst of committing a violent crime against an innocent party there is no "self defense".  Gets killed. Stupid games. Stupid prizes.

Carjacking is a forcible felony here in Utah. State law dictates that you may use any force deemed necessary to protect yourself or a third party in a situation like this. Now, had the car been unoccupied, then the shooter would be in the wrong, however since the deceased forcibly removed an occupant from the vehicle, then it's time to pop PMAGs.

That being said, the deceased could have easily turned tail and ran off, but he chose poorly.

Exactly.  There is no reason to  take a life over this kind of situation.  Racist cowboy should've minded his own business.  The rich car owner can always get another car; insurance covers it.  That poor baby momma won't ever get her baby back.
