Don't see the point of removing the mag first. And why not just chuck the crate over the side?

Do you think he was given Task, Conditions, and Standards before proceeding to said task?
A good friend of mine got out of Vietnam on a carrier towards the end. His father was Vietnamese Air Force working with US Air Force as some sort of Liason. They grabbed his family and put them on some sort of smaller boat to shuttle them out to a carrier. He said they were getting shot at when the first boat pulled away from shore. He was terrified. We were second grade when he got to the US, didn't speak a lick of English. A local church sponsored about two dozen families.
A coworker lost his family getting out of VN a few years later. His uncle owned a big fishing boat so the family loaded up and fled to Indonesia. Indonesia turned them away but the crew hit a reef and the boat sank. His mother, brothers and sister, and a couple of uncles drowned. His father grabbed him and started swimming to shore before a couple of local fisherman picked up the survivors. Indonesia stuck them all on a small island with a bunch of other refugees for two years trying to find a place for them. He and his father were finally sent to Canada and made their way to California. That was about 30 years ago. His father just passed away. He has no family left. It's amazing what people go through for a better life.
