I keep seeing these things advertised on facebook.

https://www.thetrackr.com/bravo/checkout?locale=en

I'm thinking they might be a good idea to put in safes and mabey even grips and stocks so that I could track my stuff down in the event of a theft.

anyone else had the same Idea?

I just wish I could get one that would fit in a glock backstrap

I wouldn't want factory installed trackers, but if I put it in there I would be the only one that knew about it.
as far as the .gov is concerned it could be a random strangers set of keys

Only works within 100 ft if your phone... After that, it relies on other people's phones that have the app...not sure if that would work well in less populated areas.

It isn't. It is Bluetooth.

it is not a GPS tracker. It is a bluetooth device that ties to your phone. Range is 30 feet

If you really want to do this, then you would want an Electron and one of these GPS modules, plus a battery / enclosure.  Little bit of software to upload the needed coordinate data to 'the cloud', then some google map APIs to dump the uploaded data for tracking.

For the same reason that "smart" guns are a bad idea. Commie states like CA will try to make it mandatory, (assuming the government had a way to know that the device was intended for a firearm). I doubt anything like that exists though, YET.
