I know these rifle have been compared but given the current aimpoint promo from LWRC (you got a free T1 w/LRP with a rifle) .... Which would you choose?

I will mostly be shooting inside 500 yards but the ability to stretch out would be a plus when needed ..... Weight is also not a huge deal

Scar 17 ($2650)

LWRC Repr 16" ($3000-$3250 depending on barrel length and options spiral fluting, cerakote etc)

LaRue OBR 16" ($3370)

Get a used REPR from the EE (Got miney for $2800)

If you want a piston, get the REPR

If you want a gasser, Get a PredatOBR, Knight's ECR, or LMT (I only own a REPR)

i had a 762 lwrc repr...... the one i had was reliable.. but it didnt shoot as well as the ruger sr762, that cost 1/2 as much.  i ended up selling the lwrc, and bought two, sr762 rifles.. and im happy as hell with them.

ruger sr762.

16" barrel.... uses pmags.... reliable... and accurate as fuck... approx $1500.00

i have one and fucking love it.  im not sure about spare parts just yet, i want a spare bcg, and extracters and a few firing pins as well, so i wont need to send the rifle in if i ever have any issues from normal part breakage and such............. im about to try to get a new BCG, and firing pins and things for this. not sure how hard it will be.

if i fucking have to, i will send them the upper and just say i lost the fucking bcg. no clue how hard they will make it getting spare parts. or how expensive... but ill find out soon enough.

5 shots @ 100 yards..... 168g SMK... 38g imr 4895.. lake city brass.

with a 25 round 762 pmag...

The guns you posted are precision guns, banging steel at 500 is overkill.

Are you going to reload, or otherwise buy match ammo?

Indeed they are...... I listed 2 rifles that most would consider a "Precision" gun and one light weight battle rifle

I will be shooting suppressed
I will be shooting steel 99% of the time
I won't go beyond 800-1000 yards (and that distance will be rare)
I mostly shoot within 500 yards
I do like to shoot for groups sometimes
I don't currently on a bolt 308 gun so I would say one of the more precision guns could be the best of both worlds

I am just torn because for what I would do with it there wouldn't be a perfect rifle ..... give some and take some .... or maybe I should just get a Scar 17 and a precision gun

I would stretech it out a few times a year but I am not sure those few times a year would justify it ..... I do not currently reload so I wouldn't be making any loads to custom fit the rifle

Dont hate .... Calling it a "battle rifle" because thats what most people refer to the light weight rifle that shoots .308/7.62

And no it wont ever be going into battle as long as I own it ..... I would rather whimper in my safe room

this would be my pick. 8.5 pounds  with a 14.5 pinned barrel amd slim and trim and probably the best piston design going. I have shot two of their 556 uppers. Very impressed with  how it functioned and the simplicity of it. The reduced felt recoil claim is real.

Having owned a GAP10, M&P10, and SCAR 17.  The SCAR wins it by far for your purposes.  The gap was insanely accurate but heavy and not really maneuverable, the M&P had some issues with cycling standard military ammo, LC m80 and PRVI.

The SCAR has been rock solid with all ammo I've used suppressed and unsuppressed, and I have gotten sub MOA with it.

With that said, I will probably be trading the SCAR in for a Deserttech MDR if it is even close to what they are saying it will be quality-wise.  The one I fondled at SHOT show felt great and would be a great little package for my purposes, and they have a good reputation for accurate rifles.

OBR in 18" is what you seek.

If purely a battle rifle, then SCAR.  If purely precision, I'm still not sure if the REPR is much more accurate than an OBR.  The answer for your question is undoubtedly OBR.

If I didn't just get a bolt gun for 1/4 the cost, and was going to drop the cash on the guns you listed, I'd get the Larue. But I've never owned a Larue gun, so I'm speaking without experience on what I'd buy.

The MDR is cool but I wouldn't be so hasty trading in the SCAR till the MDR is in widespread use. There is a lot to be said for choosing a weapon that has been through some sort of vetting process.
