We started thinking about this about a year ago.....I ran a thread asking for advice and got some great suggestions.  I had fun doing the demo with my kids and some of the simple electrical.  The cabinet maker we chose made everything custom and was a bit slow......but we like him and his price was good.  I think I am going to have him do our master-bath-closet next.

Before:

After:

I really like this spice drawer that he made

This a nice feature.  It is a hot water+chilled water dispenser.

We kept the same floor.

I really hung up on this b/c those 12x12 tiles are out of style....but I have always loved my floor and I have the same stuff throughout the whole lower floor of the house.  I saw this guy at my favorite taco shop with a “Marble Restorer”  advertisement on his truck and he was sitting next to me, so I struck a conversation with him.  He was so enthusiastic on what he could do with his grinding and polishing technique that I invited him over to give me a demo.  Long story short.........That guy was amazing.  He made the marble floors look better than they did when they where installed 20 years ago.  He worked his ass off.

Awesomeness.  Just imagine having a kitchen like that; you could microwave two bowls of oatmeal at once.

How much did that run you?

Looks great though.  My boss is going through a kitchen remodel right now and I can imagine that it's hell having your kitchen tore apart for who knows how long.  We just remodeled our master shower and that was a PITA having to shower in the smaller guest bath for 5 weeks.

Excellent op. The kitchens the first place to start and then do the baths like you think. Those add value to a house better then anything else. And you spend allot of time in both. Enjoy.

The “before” picture is pretty forgiving.  The kitchen was 25 years old and has gone through 4 kids and too many parties, get togethers, and good times to even remember.  It was pretty beat up.

Basically storage.  We really didn’t have much else we could do with that area short of tearing up the whole 3200 sq ft of matching marble flooring I have in the house.  I insisted that all the floors match.

i don’t have a picture showing it.....there was a wall there and a bar opening into the family room.  Contrary to ARFCOM lore.....I am not a drinker and having a bar in my house was a waste.....so we busted out the wall and incorporated the bar and small side counters into a giant island in a completely open kitchen-family room design.  It turned out very nice.
