A leading national gun safety group, joined by members of Congress, is calling for investigations of the National Rifle Association’s fundraising practices and finances in response to a Yahoo News investigation published last week. The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) has launched a nationwide petition campaign asking the Federal Election Commission and the Internal Revenue Service to investigate “violations of federal law” by the National Rifle Association. The petition drive cites the Yahoo News report which disclosed that the NRA had violated multiple provisions of the Federal Election Campaign Act, failed to report its political expenditures to the IRS for six consecutive years, and appears to have avoided paying federal taxes. CSGV spokesman Ladd Everitt called the NRA violations “hugely significant.” Everitt said his goal was to press the two federal agencies responsible for enforcement of tax and election laws to “launch investigations into the NRA’s fraudulent activities immediately.” The CSGV is made up of 48 organizations, among them religious, social justice, political and child welfare groups. Yahoo News reported that the NRA misled prospective donors by telling them that money was being raised to support the tax-exempt operations of the organization when the money was, in fact, deposited to the account of its political action committee. Federal law — as well as multiple state laws — requires that fundraisers explicitly inform donors who the beneficiary of a contribution will be. Yeah... I'm sure they'd like that...
Now piss off. ETA: they're going to do this just as soon as they're done probing the Clinton Foundation's finances, right? |

Is anyone dumb enough to think that an organization as big and visible as the NRA could do that and not already be under investigation? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Yeah, just as soon as the Clinton foundation, Bloomberg, etc tell us where they get theirs. From what I can tell, the Russians have bought FHRC.

I'd be willing to bet the IRS has already looked at them very carefully and found zilch..............

They were investigated when Clinton was president, too. |

Democrats wanting to use the IRS to harass a Conservative group that is against Dear Leader and his anti-Constitutional practices.
Deja Vu, anyone? |
The only surprise is that it took them this long and that they haven't been doing it every year.
maybe we mount a campaign to have the gun grabbers finances looked into by the IRS and Congress

The NRA is one of the most transparent groups out there, if not the model for it. It is the ONLY organization that has both corporate and small fish donors giving for the same purpose. The round up program is proof of this. A company that gives a million dollars or the woman who pays the $25 a year both want the same thing. I guess in economist terms the NRA has formed the perfect balance between freedom and capitalism and everyone is a winner.

Absolutly the congress should investigate the NRA. RIGHT AFTER THEY GET TO: BENGHAZI IRS E-MAIL'S IRS TARGETING CONSERVATIVES FAST AND FURIOUS OPERATION CHOKE POINT NSA WIRE TAPS EPA MISSING E-MAILS ATF DOJ VOTER FRAUD DOE FBI Did I miss any? |

So,we have an author with a history of anti-gun pieces write a "news article" for Yahoo. Then an anti-gun group complains based on the article and now the "news" reported by Yahoo is that "Calls mount to probe NRA finances.". Talk about a circle jerk.

Is this originating from Harry Reid?
Mitt Romney hasn't paid taxes in 10 years!!!! |
Okay just as soon as they finish with the review and ass reaming of CSGV. Better yet, do them simultaneously (at the same time for those of you who are redskins fans)

appears to have avoided paying federal taxes View Quote Why would a not for profit pay taxes? |

Who wants to bet this "investigation" focused solely on the NRA and not the NRA-ILA or NRA-PVF?
Kharn |
the allegations must be investigated throughly and repeated often as though they are fact, even thought there is no basis for the complaint or evidence of wrongdoing.
Does anyone else remember the IRS audit of the NRA during the Clinton years?

Calls aren't really mounting from anywhere. Consider the source.
With all the NRA lawyers I really doubt this.
Fucking slimy lib bastards |

View Quote That's the reason this is coming up right now. Classic Clinton diversion tactic from the '90s. It strains credulity to believe that the Obama IRS would miss an opportunity to audit the NRA. These "allegations" are probably 90% made up. |

As if anybody can't look up the NRA's annual reports to the IRS, as required of every not-for-profit organization. If you want to try it, it's like this - go to Guidestar.org, search "NRA" in the state of Virginia. You might have to register in order to download the 990's, but anybody can look at them.
Also, it's not a "gun safety group;" it's an anti-gun group. But then, it's Yahoo politics. |
They will continue to attack from every angle. All the more reason to send more money to the NRA...

About a month ago I told my lifelong libtard mother that Wayne LaPierre is a civil rights leader and she just about launched into space.
LOL... if NRA was cooking their books, Clinton would have used the IRS to nail their ass to the wall back in the 90's. I'm sure they use every possible loophole, but stay well within the letter of the law.
Guarantee this is a lame attempt to distract from the money laundering / bribery of the Clinton Foundation.
And a pathetic attempt, at that. |

That's exactly why NRA contributions are NOT tax deductible.
Now, go FUCK YOURSELF with a cactus! |
Aww how sweet, the liberals are going to start a witch hunt on the NRA.

How about a probe to see where zero's campaign money came from, also how about a probe into Clinton's money?
*crickets* |

The way this works is that an advocacy group publishes crap like this. Then a "reporter" at yahoo news parrots it. Then a congressman puts in a query to the IRS, citing the news report. The aparatchiks at the IRS fall into line and launch an investigation.
Even if it doesn't find anything (and it won't) the investigation is the punishment. It ties up resources, and the same "reporters" will print some stories with "NRA UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR FRAUD!!1!" leads. |
