Yay, more people on EBT and public assistance?

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Jeb Bush confronted one of the Republican Party’s touchiest debates head-on Tuesday, telling Puerto Ricans that conservatives should be proud that America is “an immigrant nation” and value the contribution immigrants make to the country.

The former Florida governor and 2016 GOP presidential prospect delivered a speech on economic opportunities peppered with Spanish, and his audience responded with hearty applause. He’s fluent in the language, and often uses it in Florida, but it’s rarely heard in Republican presidential campaign politics.

Bush also expressed support for giving Puerto Rico the right to file for bankruptcy under Chapter 9. The island of 3.6 million people has been in a recession for eight years and is struggling with a $73 billion public debt load, with many U.S. investors concerned that some public agencies including the Electric Energy Authority could soon go bankrupt.

That would be good. They're already on the FSA train. Maybe they'll have to clean up their act.

No, probably not.

P.S.--I know what their state motto can be: Puerto Rico, America's Third World State!

From what I've heard, most people in PR DON"T want to become a state. . . .ya know why?

Becoming a state brings much more regulation than is there now. . . lots of people do stuff, have side business, etc  and don't want all the red tape etc that comes with that. . . yeah, they like their freedom, imagine that. .

Jeb is simply pursuing the strategy of reaching out to non-Republican voters which was recommended by the RNC's Growth and Opportunity Project.

That shouldn't surprise anyone. Three of the five members have strong ties to the Bush family. One of them, Sally Bradshaw, was Jeb's Chief of Staff.

Last I heard, the majority of Puerto Rico's citizens didn't want statehood.

I could be wrong, though. I think it was a slim majority.

if a state 2 more libtard Senators, and how many libtard representative's?

They are a big FSA now only worse for the country as a whole if a state, the little bit of taxes will be shit comparatively.

Those house and senate votes will totally fuck America

It would probably bring some of the ways they run their government under move oversight as well. Which they don't want.

And, yeah, the current government doesn't want statehood.  Which is why if you call their government to get information about regulations or laws and speak English and/or are from the US they'll hang up on you. Not kidding.

Feds Consider Puerto Ricans Disabled Because They Speak Spanish

WaPo: Puerto Ricans who can’t speak English qualify as disabled for Social Security

The Social Security Administration (SSA) approved disability benefits for hundreds of Puerto Ricans because they do not speak English, despite the fact that Puerto Rico is a predominantly Spanish-speaking territory.

According to a new audit by the Office of Inspector General (OIG), the agency is misapplying rules that are intended to provide financial assistance to individuals who are illiterate or cannot speak English in the United States. Under the rules, Puerto Ricans are allowed to receive disability benefits for their inability to speak English as well.

“We found the Agency did not make exceptions regarding the English-language grid rules for claimants who reside in Puerto Rico, even though Spanish is the predominant language spoken in the local economy,” the OIG said.

The audit said a person applying for disability in Puerto Rico who cannot speak English “may increase his/her likelihood of receiving disability benefits.”

Oh yeah fuck PR statehood.
