Juana Bejarano walked out of court Tuesday a free woman. 14 months ago, she drove without a license, ran a stop sign and wiped out an entire family: Esmeralda, Breanna, Jada, Isaac and Nikko. The Saucedos are now pictures on a shirt, or names on a telephone pole memorial at the scene of the crash that killed them. The fact that Bejarano is free doesn't sit well with the family that lost so much. Bejarano didn't walk away scot free, even though she won't go to jail. She got three months on an adult offender work program and three months on electronic monitoring. Her attorney says she should make it her mission to make it all up to the Saucedo family. |

Well, guess it's up to the familia to take care of that little issue.

I need a little help here as I am having difficulty conceptualizing…. things….
Violate an obscure and arbitrary Federal law (18 U.S.C. 922 (o) ) by having an AR-15 that will sometimes double fire with light primer strikes and you will become a convicted felon and serve multiple years in prison. Violate multiple local and state laws on operating a vehicle and navigating traffic resulting in the deaths of a small family and you will be sentenced to a work program and electronic monitoring. I cannot quite put my finger on it but something is a bit off. |
|
Although the story didn't mention it, I wonder whether she is "undocumented"

Joe Saucedo saw it all happen. As his wife drove the kids, he drove an empty car, headed to pick up more kids for a party. Instead, he witnessed the fire that killed them all, unable to save them from the huge flames.

This article is from back in September when it happened. She posted $10,000 bail and was out on hours.

WTF is "misdemeanor manslaughter"
No immigration status and speaking in Spanish, I will assume on that one. |

I'm amazed that there are so many adults that truly believe that someone is supposed to go to jail every time a fatality car accident happens.
Most of the time they don't even go to trial. |

How can two articles not mention her citizenship?
If she only speaks spanish, it would appear likely that she is not a US citizen and possibly here illegally. If true, she should at least be deported if she is not going to be jailed. |

running a stop sign doesn't usually get you a prison sentence even if you kill someone

It just seems odd to me that you can be charged with murder if a cop kills someone while he is responding to a felony crime you are committing, yet if you personally kill multiple people while you are breaking 2 laws - you get basically nothing. That doesn't seem backwards to you? |
