I love my preban Bushmaster.

But it's got a purple tint. I want to put a flat top upper on it but the color doesn't match. I'm thinking about having it moly koted balck. but I'm afriad it would hurt the value. these pre-bans are getting to be an investment.$$$$
What do you think?
MolyKote?
re-anodize?
Thanks

Ha !
It doesn't look bad untill I put a different (black) upper on it.
Then it becomes real noticeable.

If you have been shooting it, I wouldn't worry about the investment value.  Make it look the way that YOU want it to, and shoot the hell out of it.

Have the complete rifle refinished in Black-T, by Walter Birdsong.

Methinks www.bushmaster.com or www.dpmsinc.com offers a refinishing service for uppers, lowers, etc.  I can't remember which one, but you can check it out.  IIRC, it was pretty reasonable, like $30 for a lower or something like that.HTH

Surrender it to the local authorities.

I'll trade ya even-up for a very black post ban Bushy, and you won't even have that boat anchor Colt taking up valuable space.....

What IS the deal with the purple bushmasters?  Was it a mistake?  They must have known they were selling purple rifles? WTF?

The purple looks better than the yellow.
I would just keep it the way it is. Look at all the new tactical pistols, Two-tone is all the rage now.

I believe that purple finish may be a cancer causing agent.  You should give the rifle to me so that I can put it in a safe place.

Yep,that's a dangerous finish on that rifle.
Plese put on some thick gloves.
Gently package the offending rifle in a safe container.
E-mail me for my address so that I can safely dispose of it.
It's for the good of you and the children.

I would recommend sending it to rma to have bear coat put on it...it will match all the new black and is a great finish.
www.bearcoat.com  for info or request a catalog.
I usually get lowers back in about a week for $ 75 including return shipping.

Derek, don't do a darn thing to that rifle.  There's nothing "wrong" with a purple tint, mechanically or aesthetically.

A refinish will lower the value of the preban status a bit.  Shoot it and enjoy the heck out of it.

However, I would like to offer to trade you one of my jet-black postban lowers for your purple lower...

A friend of mine who works for Schwinn offered to powder coat two of mine last month. I told him "flat black - the flatter the better," & he said they've got a new color that should be perfect (called "Stealth Black").

He dropped them off last week, & they were both candy apple red - they look like red chrome! To make a long story short - he just plain forgot (He's the one who did the red anodized Sanchez mags that I was selling here last year, & he DID remember that).

You should shoot some people with it and then it will be red. And to conceal the evidence give it to me.[kill]
