First Man Into Space (1959) wasn't bad. It was a low budget flick, but I like 'em corny. They're more fun that way.

A test pilot flies an experimental plane to the edge of the atmosphere but then pushes the plane farther than he's supposed to and goes into space, where he's exposed to 'cosmic dust.' He's then transformed into a mutated, shambling, one-eyed, blood-sucking beast roaming the countryside. It's good for a laugh. Some parts are a bit slow but the special effects were good, and the death scenes were pretty graphic for the time. There's also stock footage of experimental planes from the day.

The whole movie is on youtube.

No doubt inspired the makers of "The Incredible Melting Man" - much like "It! The Terror From Beyond Space" and "Alien."

Godzilla, 1954

Tarantula, 1955

Earth vs. the Flying Saucers, 1956

The Blob, 1958

The Fly, 1958

Just watched Navy vs. The Night Monsters.  Good F9F Panther and F11F Tiger porn, plus some old Blue Angels video spliced in.  Carbine and 1911 porn thrown in for good measure.  And the two gals were lookers too.

First one that came to my mind.

Fiend Without A Face is pretty good as well.

Also not a movie, but the Outer Limits episode The Architects of Fear was pretty cool for its day.

Forbidden Planet is a classic, but IMO it's too good to be jammed into a sci-fi/monster category. Besides, it's The Tempest. Besides, nobody else has a rock song.

There can be only one.

The Monolith Monsters (1957)

That's it!

The best thing about all of these movies is the community college professor. I swear to MF-ing hell, if I ever get a time machine, I'm going back to 1952 and being a community college professor. Guy is always the biggest mac in every town. Gets all the hot chicks, everyone defers to him because he is the smartest guy around, gets the sweet cars, etc. Community college professor in 1952 = Jay Z now.

I'd give the monster from "It Conquered The World" an honorable mention for being incredibly silly looking.

ETA: Reminds me of this critter:

As a kid, I was amazed by the animation and appearance of the monster from "20 Million Miles To Earth".
After that, I wanted to watch anything Ray Harryhausen created just to see his miniature monsters move.

The robots in "Forbidden Planet" and "Lost In Space" were definitely on my childhood Halloween costume wish list...

...until I saw "The Creature From The Black Lagoon". It blew my mind that the guy wearing the suit could actually swim with it.

There is a "giant bug of the week" movie out there somewhere that a bombig run by  B36's is used.   I've been trying to relocate it for years.

And we have that one, too. I saw it when I was a kid. I couldn't remember what it was called until it was on TV one day years later and I recorded it. My kids liked it, too.

His very first film role was in the sequel to Creature From the Black Lagoon, called Revenge of the Creature. He was a lab assistant who had trouble holding onto a rat.
