Doubt it. Lots of PDs have dropped them, Texas DPS was going to adopt them but had lots of trouble with them...
Don't see it happening. |

Institutional armories will fuck up the modularity of such a fine pistol, good luck getting the correct backstrap installed for your hand size, when your unit shared a supply of handguns. Just more parts for the armorers to lock up in order to maintain inventory accountability.
Glock 17 or 34 are whats up here. |

The Army will do what it always does. Say it is going to change to something better and more modern, hold trials, waste millions of dollars and 3 to 5 years of time and come way with nothing but saying they are staying with what they currently have.

It should be, but they won't replace the M9 for at least a decade, maybe three decades.

I think the main reason a Glock or similar pistol was never adopted by our military is they required a double strike capability. They don't care about manual safeties. The last major military pistol competition the winners were Beretta and Sig. Unless they change their requirements I doubt there will ever be a striker fired pistol entered. I think the only one that could enter would be the Walther P99 since it has a double action mode.

Frankly, I'm curious if they would just go to the P226 for everyone, especially with Sig moving a lot of production over here. Though the safe bet is they do nothing and keep issuing the M9 for a while. |

Not everybody needs a pistol, and mine spent the majority of deployment locked up. But still. Other times it was invaluable. Like KLEs for concealed, ETC. |

Glocks are already in use with selected US forces that deploy on a consistent basis. However as much as I would love to see the Glock become the next service pistol, without a safety I do not believe it has a chance. There are nations that have used the Glock to outfit armies without incidence.
IMO, the M9 is not going anywhere anytime soon. Units that have a requirement for an pistol that provides a different capability than the Beretta will continue to procure those weapon system platforms as needed.. ETA: Glock 17S - Glock with a safety used in Pakistan, Israel and Tasmanian security forces.
