You don't realize how hard he hit until they play it at normal speed right after.

Damn! That's strange to see it so slow before seeing it in real time. Easy to lose it at them speeds.

That's really impressive camera work.

I was thinking the same thing. He kept on it even after it slammed into the wall in front of him.

Check out the smoke coming from the rear tires in the slo-mo.

Balls of steel; cameraman has them.

"He became a passenger at that point"

The narrative was good.

Suspension too stiff?

He took the same track the car in front did, maybe he went higher up on the second hump.

View Quote

Too much curb on the first - and the suspension doesn't look like it settled before the second.  He did his thing as a driver once the rear started around.  Just too much speed to scrub off before the wall.

Probably a remote camera since it's not behind a catch fence.

Ouch, my poor car!!!  Had to go out to the garage to make sure she was ok

Pretty cool to watch in the slow-mo.  Cameraman needs a raise.

That left/right skipping at the onset is such an awful feeling lol. You're like chirp/chirp "awe hell . . . "

I love V8 Supercar racing!

Craig Lowndes FTW!!!

Yeah... Looks like he made a slight fraction-of-a-second mistake in turning his wheels to try to maintain control through the chicane ... Then over-corrected.

At high speeds...

Great work from the cameraman... Balls of steel.

Good to see the driver get out on his own at the end.

Very cool.

I like me some V8 supercars series!

You think, "hmm surprised he couldn't save that"..........then they show it at full speed

Here's a video that was linked after the end of the first that appears to be on the same corner.  Apparently that's a dangerous corner!

ETA: Yep, Adelaide those Aussies have some brutal racetracks!

He was already rotating before the entry to the first part of the chicane, that made him late for the apex and subsequently arrived at the second part at entirely the wrong angle and with too much speed. Common enough mistake, especially for a youngster.

Agreed, but you can also see the rear step out as he's on two wheels through the right-hander. He's already countersteering left with two wheels in the air, and when the car came back down, it got traction with the steering wheel still cut left. That got him all out of shape, and in trying to correct and stay off the left side wall, he spun.

Hitting back end first probably saved the drivers life.  His seat took the brunt of it instead of his neck.

If it's not, GM will sell you a new one for $48,000.00 +.

The camera was most likely remote controlled.

I am astounded by the clarity of the slo-motion.  The tire smoke, the glass shards etc, all of it says that camera has some kinda fast refresh.  Nuts fast compared to years ago.  I bet it is in the 1k frames a second in the original format.

Amazing.

That was quite a smack for the driver.
