I say that I love them both equally but for some reason, I have 2 times as many handguns as long guns. What about you guys? Which do you own more of and which do you love more? Do you try to even out your collection between the two?

way more rifles than pistols, because I love rifles more. Thus I'm on a website called "ar15.com" and not "pistolforum.com"
I have more handguns than rifles but I want to have an equal amount of both either by reducing the handguns or increasing the rifles. I like both equally.

Way more rifles. I love handguns but also view them as more utilitarian for self defense when out in public. An accurate rifle is pure joy to shoot whether punching paper, banging steel or hunting critters.
Given my druthers, I'll take a rifle over hand gun for 99% of uses. You just can't walk around Chipolte with them without looking like Fatty or Snowboots or Zaminski. |
If you include shotguns then I own more long guns than handguns.
If you get nit picky and say "only rifle caliber long guns" then I think I have more handguns. My preference is actually in the middle: pistol caliber SBRs, of which I own several. |
I used to collect 1911s, so I have more handguns, but haven't bought a handgun in years so the long guns will eventually outpace them.
I have waaaaay more rifles than handguns. Id like to shoot my handguns more but its such a pain in the ass to recover the brass at the range I use. My rifle brass gets ejected into a net I clamp on the side of my bench.
Guns are icky. I count on the kindness of strangers, and the forbearance of reptiles.
Way more rifles, most of my handguns are for carrying, I build most of my rifles if I could build most of my handguns it'd be equal.
Honestly, it varies. Really depends on what my latest buying spree was. I'm in rifle mode currently.
Pretty sure I have more handguns although it may be about even.
Between carrying, USPSA, only reloading handgun rounds and the limitations of the private land that I normally shoot on I shoot my handguns a lot more often than my long guns. |
I have more rifles. Each one suited to exceed in a particular skill set. Precision rigs, hunting set ups for turkey, whitetail, skeet guns, etc.
I shoot pistols more often though. Started shootind IDPA so theres a new tool coming soon for that...yipee!!! |
I have more long guns than pistols. Each of my long guns are for more specific uses and my pistols each serve a more general purpose.
Pistols: cold carry weather, hot carry weather, revolver, nightstand, 1911 and .22 Long guns: deer shotgun, deer rifle #1 #2 and #3, turkey shotgun, duck/goose shotgun, ARs, .22s, bolt guns and lever guns. |
I have some handguns, but they seem puny and boring after shooting my rifles. Although, my AR pistol is probably a fav right now and that kinda spans the gap.
Way more long guns. More power more accuracy, usually more capacity.
I like shooting. A lot. I shoot pistols and rifles and even shotguns.

Buying handguns in NY is a little bit of a pain, requiring two trips to the gunstore and one to the pistol permit office, for years I only had a couple of pistols
I have more long guns, but most of them are family "gift" (hand me downs) fudd guns. I still like them though.
I have about twice as many handguns as I do rifles and about twice as many rifles as I do shotguns.
I have an equal number of rifles to pistols, however money wise I have 5 times more invested in rifles than I do in handguns.

Even. Three long guns and three handguns.

Way more pistols than rifles, but I enjoy shooting rifles more. It's a time thing for me, I can take the pistols to the local indoor range, shoot off 200 rounds and be home in just over an hour, including drive time. While the outdoor rifle range I prefer is a hour and a half in drive time alone.
Very few pistols. I only need one to fight my way back to the rifle I should have brought in the first place. I like rifles and lots of them. Preferably rifles of military utility. The only thing a pistol does better than a rifle is ride on your hip.
Way more long guns than pistols. My pistol is for defense and competition, and all my long guns are for hunting and play.

Right now probably more long guns and I sort of drift back and forth on a favorite.
My collection is actually pretty equal. I didn't try and make it that way, it just turns out that way.
I own many more handguns than rifles and I'm much more proficient with them
I'm sort of like "Quigley " but in reverse. |
Handguns are for fighting your way back to your rifle, which you shouldn't have put down in the first place.
I've only got 6 handguns, a couple are safe queens (my Python doesn't get a ton of range time anymore), but the rest get used fairly often. I've got something like 20-ish rifles, but I'd have to double check that . Most are hunting rifles/fudd guns, but I really only use 4-5 rifles consistently (including my 2 ARs). I inherited most of my collection and just can't bring myself to sell them off.

I have 2 handguns, 5 rifles, 1 shotgun and one "pistol" I'm waiting on a tax stamp to come back on.

I have way more rifles than handguns. I just like shooting rifles more. Handguns are fun to to shoot and a necessity to own, but rifles are just more enjoyable on the range in my opinion.
