While not a DPMS, my Bushmaster 308 currently has a Leupold VX6, 3-18 44mm on it that can shoot better then I can hold out to 500 yards.  Yes it is heavy, but it shoots real nice!!!!!

How long is the barrel and what do you want to do with it?

I've got a 16" RRA LAR8 and I run a 1.5 - 6 on it

what you going to do with it? 308 inside 100 yards if ballistic tip it crazy.  scoped, with nice glass I would think a 1.0 gun... maybe looser.  but I would zero at 100 or 200 and be happy to shoot 12" at 600 yards.... red dot if precision but firepower is needed. way bigger than 62grains.  155's are still cooking at 1100 yards.  at <100 yards, the firepower from an ar10 weapon is pretty definitive...I'd say a light rail or naked hand guards plus an aimpoint.

My 3gun rifle previous had a Leupold 3-9x36 MR/T M1 Illuminated Mildot on it, but I re-purposed that scope and put it on my DPMS Recon 308.  The 3gun rifle currently has no optic, but will be wearing some flavor of 1-6x or 1-8x in the future.

You have a rifle capable of doing decent long range work(with a good trigger in it and you do your job right).
Put an optic on it that will allow you to do so.
I ran a Nikon Monarch on mine when I had my LR308 TAC20.
Great rifle scope that didn't break the bank.
I tried an EoTech and magnifier on it and I hated to try to do decent distance work.

I put an IOR 6X on my Sig Sauer 716 Patrol.

Great field of view and clear glass and the MP-8 reticle is good as a BDC for the longer shots.

For general hunting type use I'd probably go with something like a VX3 3.5-10X.

I have a 12.5" bbl .308 AR SBR in the works that will probably have a red dot to try out first.

My 20" bbl LAR-8 wears a 3.5-15x56.

Mine with the JP trigger, now wears the 6-24x version of this Zeiss.  It is my favorite rifle to shoot out to 1000m.

The Z1000 reticle is tailor fit to the 308.   With a mild load at 2600fps, out of this 24" barrel, it makes even the novice long distance shooter look pretty compitent.

The 2.5mph wind marks on the reticle are amazing to use.  I've use this set up at 9000'-4000'.  I make the corrections for atmosohere just like any other set up.  Wouldn't trade the optic for any other.  The one in this photo, the 4.5-14x now rides on my 20" 5.56 rifle, and works well with my 69gr loads.

This is the reticle and hold on a clay pigeon highlighted by the orange dot at 975m.  There is a 10mph breeze.

Close up of target and Sparks556 standing next to the Buffalo with the pigeon above it.

SWFA 10x mil/mil in a Burris cantilevered mount has made me pretty happy for the money, but mine's intended only for longer-range stuff (200 yards+)

Out at the range yesterday I helped a friend zero in his M308 on a 16 inch AR-10.

I liked the scope. The only (minor) problem was it had a one inch tube instead of 30mm.

This is the gun. Panther LR 308L.  I added a 1" block to the rail but haven't done anything else. Probably a waste of money in the end, depending on what I put on it.  The stock is open, as you can see,  and the butt plate opens to put a tool kit in that came with the gun. Someone asked about barrel length. It's 20".

I do own one , originally had an EOTECH red dot ,

Needed more glass , I found a springfield armory 6-20x 50mm with ranged reticle for 7.62

A very very good scope especially for what I paid for it

Here is an old pic (I have moved the Eotech back to a more normal position and gotten a better strap))

Get one in a long distance config...Leupold 4-14X50 illuminated mil dot (rifle custom built by GA Precision)

and a shorter version, with an Eotech.  Cover all your bases
