Local story around here.

24 year old son of store owner exchanges gunfire with two armed robbers.
The kid fatally wounded one of the guys, but took damage himself and was
pronounced dead at the hospital.

Joliet Patch:  Link

I drive less than a block away from there multiple times a week.  This area
of Joliet isn't the best, but it isn't the worst either.  They've actually done a
pretty decent job of cleaning things up in this area over the last 20 years.

Hopefully they will be able to fill in more details.

Was shot on his feet instead of on his knees, which is always better.   RIP

Joliet is one of the Midwest's under-appreciated shitholes.

Kind of like Chicago's version of Pontiac (Rockford serving the Flint role).

Hopefully it'll help Joliet continue to improve.  Spread the word, dirtbags.

Very true, if rather go out fighting than be executed.

Some more info in the story Channel 7 in Chicago is running:

WLS Ch7 story

Many of the stores in this area have the employees behind glass.

Probably not the case here.  Family run business and probably didn't

have the dollars to put the cash register inside a cage.
