I've purchased a pair of Nalgene bottles to replace the canteens, cups and stoves in my hiking gear and bug out bag.  I've ordered an Olicamp cup so far, what else do you guys use and recommend with your Nalgene bottles?

You can get a top with a straw in the top that is very convenient.

Read up on how to tie a jug knot and use it and some paracord to add a leash or carry loop.

Huh?

I do not see the value in accessorizing my water bottle. In a camping/hiking/bug out situation, all that extra weight adds up too quickly. If you need accessories for a lidded water cup, then you either are not cut out for the outdoors or have purchased the wrong piece of equipment from the start.

Should have got this - stainless steel, vacuum insulated. I know Nalgene is "BPA Free" now, but who knows what other chemicals are leaching into your drinks from that plastic. Plus nalgene is non-insulated.

They will keep ice water cold (still with ice) for over 24 hours easily.

A great use for one is a hot water bottle just before bed at night when camping in the cold weather.

Fuel up the body on food or a quick energy snack
Take a short vigorous hike down the trail until you are warmed up
Pee......and I mean really force yourself to go
Put on some clean socks
Wear a hat to sleep in
Tuck a Nalgene filled with hot water between your thighs in your sleeping bag.

Go to bed warm, stay warm. That hot Nalgene is a luxury after that and will keep you toasty.

My coldest night out camping was in my hammock. -47* and I stayed very warm.

When are we gonna get to a rainbow BFL?

But, I have already begun to store my excess stickers from the gear I've bought on my two bottles.

I've looked at those, they seem pretty cool but $25 for a 18oz bottle is a bit steep, and i can get a 48oz nalgene for $10 or less.

When you're done with your water bottle, it will move to your gun cases and pelican rollers.

My wife says that I have a sticker collection... that just happened to come with a few fancy plastic boxes.

I have a few of those... they warped and fell in or popped out.

Now they're like... legendary beings that wander my garage and haunt my tough boxes.  They suck.
I keep throwing them away and my wife keeps pulling them out of the trash as "they're fine"... and she has never once used those cursed pieces of shit.

Try 1996.  I had two of the wide mouth Lexan ones when I went backpacking in New Mexico.

No one really cared much about them outside of the outdoor community. However, this was before having a bottle of water at all times was the social norm.  BPA was not even discussed.

That and being in Michigan, being able to use them to hold hot water to warm me inside a sleeping bag is a very useful ability, not sure how well an insulated Hydro Flask can.

Congratulations OP!

The best thing you can do with your new Nalgenes is replace them with Gatorade/Powerade bottles. They're a lot lighter.

Yep, I remember buying my first one at the Philmont gift shop in 1995. I had it until 2010, and lost it in a move.
