Well my oldest is off to Ft Benning. OSUT for Infantry.
Does seem like yesterday that we brought him home from the Hospital. 20 years does go by fast.

Ironic when you stop and think that 9/11, Terror, War and Muslims have basically all that he and kids his age have ever known.

We're proud of him and yes the send off was a little teary.

Tonight will be a little teary for him, and this coming Saturday will be even more teary. But don't you forget to laugh.

My wife made him a gift basket with cookies and assorted chocolates to give to the DI's.

My son just finished AIT as a combat medic.  The time will go by quickly.  Write often and try to attend graduation.  Congratulations to you!

BE AT THAT GRADUATION!!!  Your inflated chest will absorb those tears just fine.
(No one was at mine...kinda sucked.  When I went to my son's...it was the greatest thing in the world) Beaufort S.C. was beautiful as well.

What's amazing is that he was only a little child when 9/11 happened.  Stand tall and be proud.  You've raised a fine son.

Is your 11B son going airborne?  Shoot me a PM if he ends up at Bragg, and I can help him get settled in.

I still remember that trip to Benning 25 years ago. Welcome station isn't bad......until pickup. He'll have a lump in his throat then. Best of luck to your son.

Awesome... good for both of you.  Most of his stay there won't be amusing at the time, but he will look back at it fondly.  Don't worry about him, if he's not an absolute mouth-breather he'll do great.

Graduation was awesome and I'm glad my family made it, but my dad putting a cord on my shoulder at Turning Blue was and still is one of the best moments of my life.

Now the fun can really start!

Buy the most over the top mushy I love you cards.  When you send them, douse them in perfume.  Use pink envelopes and write on the outside of them every term of endearment you can think of.

Greet his Drill Sgt on graduation day and hear all the stories from him about what happened when your son got the cards in the mail.  (Only works well if you are a vet)

I had so much fun sending things to my son in Basic and AIT.

My Dad got choked up when he dropped me off for the same destination.  He was drafted in 1950 and went to the same place.

His Grandfather, (Army Air Corps/ Air Force, 27 years) died Christmas evening. I know he wanted to be at his Grandsons graduation too.

He's just Army.  He'll be ok.  It's not like he joined the Marines or anything.
