I view it as an "observance" rather than a real "holiday". If businesses are open, good for them - we're a capitalist nation.

My company paid us triple time holiday pay. Nobody bitched about coming in that day. But everyone called it Robert E Lee's birthday.

Totally surprised the new Angry Birds Holiday episode is Popcorn Day. My wife made note of the color of the popcorn....
ETA if this holiday went as in the past it would be called National Civil Rights Day or National Rights Day. Just like they have done with Washington and Lincoln's Birthday changing to Presidents Day. There were lots of people who pushed the Civil Rights Agenda forward, no need to give one credit over the others.....isn't that the message they strive for, inclusive? |

I am getting paid today, but I don't have to work (state employee) but the only reason I am not working this is supposed to be one of my days off in our work cycle and has nothing to do with MLK, but I get paid for the holiday anyway. If I was working I would get double time.

Meh my company observes Labor Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, And New Years. I am open every other day of the year #becausemoney |
