A load of laundry was going, and I immediately canceled the cycle.

It's an outside system, and only pumps up 2-3 inches to the street.

I silenced the alarm, reset the breaker on the main panel, and alarm still tripped

I hope it's just a faulty high level switch and not the pump itself...service tech should be here at noon.

PSA: This NOT a poop thread

Anybody have anything else to check for?  I'm not an electrician.

Leaky check valve. Really hard to say without putting on the rubber gloves.

If you have to pump your sewage uphill you're doing it wrong. You broke rule #1 of plumbing.

My pump went TU a couple of years ago, amazingly the Home Depot special lasted as long as it did. I replaced it with a Zoeller Shark which is a far more robust pump than what it replaced, buy once/cry once and all that..

I've lived in the country before. I know what a septic system/tank is. I have never heard of a grinder pump.

I'd rather have to deal with this than a septic system

It's usually found on lake homes real low on the water table.... where a natural drain system wouldn't suffice and you need to elevate you sewage.

My agitator pump alarm went off one morning. The motor has an amp draw sensor in case of the water level getting too high. The impeller on the top of the shift hits water and raises the amp draw. Mine went off because of the flushable toilet wipes my kids were flushing. They built up on the shaft and raised the amps just a bit. It took 2 minutes and some nitrile gloves to fix it.

Mine went out 2 years ago at the family lake cabin. The pump/grinder pushes sewage a 100 feet uphill through a 2" line, sewer district booster pump takes it from there.

Well, when the damn thing died, it was nice enough to come back to life, and died again, several times. The wife wasn't real happy about having to use the 65yr old outhouse, but no bath tub was her breaking point. Fortunately I have some DAMN good friends and my buddy who's a garbage truck mechanic that came up & helped me out.

A new unit bought online cost me $1250 shipped, the best estimate from 3 plumbers? $2500, $1200 of that was labor.

We got 'er done for a skosh under 2 hours, and consumed a ridiculous amount of beer, had prime rib for dinner and it STILL cost under $1400

Frozen sewage blocking up the pipe?

Not sure how to solve that,  snake the pipe with a root cutter and try to clear the blockage?

A little update...

Pulled the cover off, pulled the pump up...it was one of those disposable wipes wrapper around the impeller shaft...had the tech show the wife, now she knows better.

Dodged a bullet temporarily with this one.  The previous homeowner did right when installing the whole system, top notch basin, controller, rail mount system, wiring, everything.  Should this baby act up again, will be as simple as pulling the pump, swapping the wires over, and sliding the new one down the rails to the bottom.

Learn something new everyday

This place is better than college.

So, where the dookie go after you grind it up and pump it?

I saw this video years ago and heard they put them in prisons. Thought it would be a great addition to some businesses and homes. I had no idea there were homes with anything like it, albeit on a smaller scale.

These pumps must be the same ones used a fuel pumps in Chevy pickups.
