Feeding Raw Bones

The reason dogs should never eat cooked bones is because they can
splinter -- whether boiled or fried or baked or barbecued -- in your
dog's throat or stomach, choking him or causing severe internal
injuries. Raw bones, however, are safe for dogs. While some owners worry
about salmonella and other bacterial infections, dogs are much less
likely to get these infections because of their highly acidic digestive
system. Feral dogs and wolves frequently eat the bones of their prey.
Veterinarians such as Ian Billinghurst argue that the healthiest diet
for dogs is the one their ancestors ate: fresh, raw meat.

Coyotes and wolfs don't cook their food. Its cooked bones that are dangerous.  Raw is fine.

didn't know they could smoke pork butts.  they got no thumbs, so it's hard to tend the smoker

on a serious note I think cooking causes the bones to splinter easily

I gave my dog a pork shoulder bone. She was constipated for a few days. Felt bad for her.

Chicken bones are the only ones I would not feed.

Our Corgi used to enjoy a bone from a pork shoulder.

We didn't enjoy cleaning up all the feces and vomited feces.

Every dog I've ever had pukes shortly after giving them bones.   So dangers aside,  I don't feed my dogs much people food because I don't like cleaning up puke.

Having said that, I think pretty much any  raw bones are supposed to be safe.

We give em the bones from smoked shoulders. I swear the smoking makes the bones softer and easier for them to eat.

Pork or chicken bones NO. They splinter when chewed up.

Almost killed a dog of mine feeding him some rib bones.

They compacted up in his gut and cut his guts up pretty bad. Very sick for almost a week.

i dont think its a good idea. However i can testify that my dumb as dog shit boxer snagged a pork shoulder bone out of my trash after it spent 16 hours in the smoker and inhaled it in under 2 minutes and is still kicking. He is however still dumb as dog shit.

I love Boxers but good lord can they be fucking retards.

Very bad idea.  Cooked pork bones can shatter and the splinters can seriously harm or even kill a dog.

My wife refuses to give any bones to ours because of the potential splintering.  She seems to research this stuff ad nauseam, so I trust her call on it.

Antlers, on the other hand, are GTG in our house, and the dogs just love them.

If cooked, no. Cooking breaks the bone down to much and it tends to shatter when the dogs chew on it. Can perforate their intestines. Uncooked bone you are good to go.
