I used to use Fram without any issues until I started reading how inferior they were and quit using them. Since '03 I've only been using Motorcraft filters and have had excellent luck with them, plus they are reasonably priced.
Between your two choices I'd pick Wix, but make sure it has a silicon anti drainback valve if it's going on a newer Ford motor. I believe Ford started recommending them around 1997. |

I've read (never experienced) bad things about Fram. Supposedly the higher line of Fram (Ultraguard?) filters is actually well built now due to all the bad publicity. I run Wix in all of my vehicles, the way I see it a couple of dollars for a proven product is worth the peace of mind. On the other side of the argument I don't know of anyone that had a filter related engine problem.

Depending on what specific filter you need, most Motorcraft filters are $3-5 at Walmart. It's the OEM filter, and dirt cheap, there ain't no real reason to use anything else.

Wix. Just look at the link above and compare the internals of different filters. I have never had an issue with Fram but will always spend a bit more for the protection of my engine.

I have came across two collapsed Frams before on used cars, now I have no way of knowing how long they had been on the car, I can say I have never came across another manufacturers failed filter in several dozen different oil changes. |

Been using Fram filters for 30 years with no problems.
My last veicle was over 200k when I sold it and still ran like new, my current ride is at 117k and still runs like new. Just use decent oil and change regularly. |

LOL at the Fram haters. Make a million filters a month, and some bad ones will get by inspection. Count on it.
What really matters is how they deal with a failure... The only engine I ever lost to a filter was a WIX filter. 300 Ford I6 Filter bonding goo as not cured all the way. It came apart, and blocked the passages in the crank with fiber & goo. I had purchased the filter at a parts store that also had a machine shop. We tore the engine down, and you could see the filter bits in the lifter gallery, and the crank passages. The WIX rep showed up, looked at the evidence, and said "Yep. Our filter came apart" Then he proceeded to give me ONE new filter. That was all they covered. The manager at the parts house just about shit himself. The rep was clear, warranty only covers the filter. Fuck WIX. Fram has replaced engines. I have seen it in person. |

I used Fram when I was younger, but researched them a bit and the general consensus is there are much better filters for the same money (if not cheaper). At one point, even the house brand Wally World filters were better rated on the Bobistheoilguy.com forum.

Just get whatever came on it from the factory. They aren't that much more. While I believe there is some truth to what has been said about a filter is a filter, if it doesn't have an anti drainback valve, I wouldn't buy it.

I like the Fram filters with that grippy stuff on them, but generally use either Wix or the Wal-Mart brand Supertech.
I've never had a oil filter fail me. |

Most of the die hard German car enthusiasts and mechanics seem to love WIX and Mann, so they are probably the pinnacle. However, back when I changed my own oil I used all of Fram, Purolator, M1, and even STP, and never had any problems with any of them. (my two current vehicles go to the dealer for changes)
