I live in the country so I can shoot and be loud if I want, but it is also quiet. Our next door neighbors bought the house on our road 1.5 years ago. They were quiet people for about 6 months. Then, we were awaken at 5:30 am by a straight piped truck that idled for 30 minutes. Then, their new Suburban got the Nascar exhaust treatment. I am 500+ feet from them and it rumbles. They wake up other neighbors too. I own race cars and shoot into my berm from time to time myself. So I am no anti noise lib myself..... In the fall, "dad" went to sight in his .308 rifle. I watched as the 10 year old son stood 15 feet from the target at 100 yards and called out the shots!!! I video'd that shit. I could not believe it. No backstop into a flat hard field with houses 600 yards behind us. This goes on from time to time. Now the 10 year old must have received a pistol for Christmas. Today he rapid fired 10+ rounds at the target... sadly, after about the 3rd round, they were all up at about a 45 degree angle. He was lobbing 9mm mortars. I am not an in your face or nosey neighbor. But how do you handle the damned loud trucks every morning and the negligent firearm stuff without violating a neighborship? Any realistic thoughts here? These houses behind us will end up taking a round before it's over. The irony is he owns a muffler shop too :).

Try talking with him, maybe?
If that won't work, then call the cops as needed. No need to put up with shitheads. |

Smash in their door and head on in there with a machete? No don't do that, it'll get you shot three times.

The noise you'll just have to live with.
OTOH you can ask damcv62 about the legal consequences when the po-po think you've shot a house. |
|
Are you sure your in the country?
When my neighbors shoot I have to really be listening for it. |

Ok, I am 45 minutes from any population over 4000 people.... My local town is 15 mites away... I don't live in the city. Farm land everywhere. Most people would say I live in the country. I don't live 1,000 miles from nowhere in Idaho... no.

Offer to help him build a berm so he can shoot safely. It'll help with the exhaust noise too if you pick the right spot on his property.

Talk to the neighbor about noise and see if you can come up with a livable arrangement.
If yes, update thread and move on with life. If no, ask neighbor in a polite but matter-of-fact fashion whether he should expect the same consideration FROM his neighbors that he shows TOWARDS his neighbors. At that point, start preparing your noise-maker of choice to be utilized every hour throughout the night. In can be midnight shooting. Fireworks. PA system with rap music. It doesn't matter. After all.. you both can do what you want in the country. Take a week of vacation time to sleep through the day. Put your wife and children in a Holiday Inn express to avoid spousal blow-back. For an added touch field dress a gut-shot deer at the property line. Everyone is glad that I live in a swamp with no neighbors. |

SSS View Quote Or burn him down. Both of these are felonies, I wouldn't recommend them. OP, country life is different from suburbia. You want to make noise by shooting and have race cars, don't be surprised when your neighbor 500' away does, too. Could be worse. My neighbors are 50' away. At least mine are quiet, though. But I can't shoot guns in my yard without getting arrested and going to jail. Sometimes you have to let the trainwreck happen. Eventually junior will take a round from dumbass dad, ending the fun and games. Since Junior would have probably turned out to be just as big a dumbass as daddy. you'd do the world a favor by just letting the trainwreck happen. |
