B&W is more stable than color.

Still surprising the images are that good though.

Outstanding!  My grandfather spent a lot of time in LeHavre, and too a number of photos there that he developed into slides after he got back from the war.

Knowing how to drive the Epson scanner that guy is using can pull a surprising amount of detail out of some of the most fogged negatives. Couple that with some software skills and you can salvage some pretty poor images.

On the "rescued" site, if you look through the rescued archive of photos of people, notice how there are essentially no overweight or even plump people in any of the old photos?

Very good find.

Stuff like this is why I have been on GD for so long, despite all the rest of the chaff that we see day to day.  GD really does...  Deliver.

Bravo!

Good find OP! The guy developing the film seemed to have a lot of reverence for the subjects he was working on. A valuable project for sure.

The magic is in processing the film; he gets one chance at it and good or bad the results are all there will be to work with.  Scanner technology will change, but what's on the processed film from a practical standpoint is fixed. Raw whether film exposed or unexposed can be described as being alive, it changes over time and with environment.

I'm sure that I'd be using a ton of restrainer in my developer formulation.

True but there's a lot more going for you in pulling a useable scan from a negative than there is trying to print it in the darkroom, so the chance of success is more than a little better than it used to be. Most of those negatives would have been useless 25 years ago unless you found a master printer and could justify the expense.

I was wondering why he didn't just drop them all off at the Target Photo Center and call it good, but then I watched the video.

Very cool and thanks for sharing.

The 4th or 5th picture is of the BOSTON Light ship.
It was decommissioned in the 70's while I was stationed at base boston.
What an amazing find and recovery!

I just have this feeling that someday I'm going to find something like that in a house I buy or something.

Rush excitedly to get it developed, and it will just like 58 vintage dick pics.
