I only use a 12 oz french press , been buying ground starbucks gold coast blend (ground) but I want some thing better.  I like a strong coffee as I only drink a single 8oz cup in the morning. Not sure I want to grind my own beans and all that just for 1 cup but I might  .  I usually order from amazon and has to be ground or beans , so what should i try?

The difference between fresh ground beans and pre-ground, packaged coffee is night and day.

You're already using a French press...might as well go all out and get some decent beans as well A cheap grinder will set you back about $12.

For recommendations, idk. I like nutty, earthy coffee like Sumatran or mocha Java; seeing as you like Starbucks, you might enjoy something with a lot of bright top and thicker bottom like a good Peaberry.

Buy local roasted beans. No sense in buying the crap off the shelve if your only making a cup or 2 a day

For a national brand of whole beans, Magnum Exotics is pretty fucking good.

You want it strong look up Deathwish Coffee, made from Robusta not Arabica beans. Claims 2x but still tastes good. Kicking Horse 454 Blend is damn good too. Both are on amazon.

Well shit, with that kind of restriction on your coffee purchases, I can see why you need our help.

I like Pleasant Morning Buzz from Whole Foods.  It's actually the only reason I ever stop in their store.

Peet's?  If so, that is my suggestion as well.  I like the French Roast.

I use that as well in my press pot. Sometimes I'll buy the Colombian bag at Costco, I forget what it's called but it's a dull silver bag with a leopard on it.

love buzz is a personal favorite of mine. A good amount of caffeine, but it is a blended french and dark, so you get the smoothness of the french roast.

I'm a big fan of Boca Java coffee.  They have enough varieties to make your head swim, but if you're looking at a great cup, one of my favorites is Misner Estate or Palm Beach Passion (the latter is a mix of light and dark roast beans and the combination is magic).

Get a burr grinder and find a coffee shop that roasts their beans. Fresh is more important than brand.
