EDMONTON - Alberta RCMP confirm the man believed to have shot two officers in a St. Albert, Alta., casino was found dead.

RCMP assistant commissioner Martin Degrand said the suspect is known to police, but he wouldn't release the man's identity.

Degrand told a press conference that two shots were fired in the casino, but the officers didn't fire their weapons.

The
shooting occurred around 3 a.m. during an investigation in the
southeast part of the city of St. Albert, 26 km northwest of Edmonton.

The suspect was found inside an unoccupied, but not abandoned home.

"When police found the suspect, he was dead."

Degrand identified the injured officers as Const. David Wynn, 42, and Aux. Const. Derek Walter Bond, 49.

Bond is in serious, stable condition, while Wynn's injuries are life threatening.

"Const. David Wynn is in grave condition and we are very concerned," Degrand said.

A
source within the RCMP told QMI Agency the victims were a regular
officer accompanied by a member of the police auxiliary. The officer was
shot in the head by the suspect and auxiliary officer sustained a
gunshot injury in the arm.

Auxiliary officers are considered peace officers when paired with regular members on duty.

Officers
were investigating a non-urgent stolen automobile complaint in the
parking lot of a Sturgeon County casino and encountered the suspect
after entering the casino.

DeGrand said an altercation took place
inside, during which the suspect shot both officers before fleeing the
scene. He said the Mounties did not return fire.

RCMP found the
stolen vehicle connected to the suspect closed area roads in the area
while emergency response teams hunted for the suspect.

Around noon, Mounties announced they had located the suspect and said there was no longer a threat to the public.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has been called in to investigate

Just watched a news conference with Constable Dave Wynn's family.

They are saying their goodbye's and letting him go.
It was pretty hard to watch.
