Marine
Corps Special Reaction Teams act as a SWAT force within the military
police community. Because of their specialized mission, they sport some
pretty sweet gear. This recent Marine Corps photos of the SRT from III
Marine Expeditionary Force showed off its kit during a training session
at Camp Hansen, Okinawa. Lance Cpl. Royce Dorman and Sgt. Matthew
Callahan provide a glimpse of what these teams carry.

Here are the weapon systems used by the Okinawa team, including
the M4A1 rifle, the M1014 shotgun, M45A1 pistol, and the M9A1 pistol.
The M45A1, a modern version of the classic M1911A1 .45 caliber pistol,
is now being issued to special operations-capable units within the
Marines like the Special Reaction Teams.

Special Reaction Teams are tasked with performing close-quarters
breaches and entries, and a ballistic shield can help protect the
pointman as they enter a room. Also seen here are two pieces of gear not
common in the Marine Corps: the olive drab combat uniforms and the
Diamondback Tactical plate carriers.

This smiling Marine shows off his helmet setup. The Modular
Integrated Communications helmet, Ops-Core night-vision shroud, and
Surefire helmet light he’s sporting are all popular pieces of gear for
special operations forces.

A Marine cleans the upper receiver of an M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System, the Special Reaction Team’s long-range rifle.

They're MPs, so probably only a DM course. SSBC is for grunts only.

Did you guys get issued MK11s?  MP HOGs aren't unheard of.  Did you guys train any MPs when you were a MOUT instructor?  Kind of curious as to how they would stack up compared to your average 03.

Im pretty sure they mostly just go to the Marksman/Observer course the Marine Corps puts on through the Advance Training Group.  Myself and a few others went thru it this summer with those guys in the article.  They actually get a decent amount of range time I was surprised to find out.  We got a few seats to the course because we (EOD) had more M110 SASS's than the SRT guys.  Good dudes. Young

They can go to the school but won't get the MOS 0317.  I know some who went to the Army school at Benning when SSBC was not open to non-03s

Yeah we trained MP units at MOUT, not close to infantry dudes, but much better than say the band.

About the worst people I ever trained were the band and Jacksonville SWAT.

DMRs were replaced like 2 years ago, Regt had some teething problems when they first got their guns though, MCSF mission being security, defense and limited offense combine with all but the team leaders and above being UV, UW contract on the MCSF obligation prior to going to OPFOR meant the Regt would not send people to 2nd MarDiv's school.

A little bit of hype there, the term "Special Operations Capable" is kind of a misnomer for PMO SRT

Yeah, I think for USMC that only really applies to the guys from BN/Force Recon, MARSOC, and maybe ANGLICO. Basically anyone who is capable of dive or jump insertions if need be, though it's seldom employed.

All I see is the "Policization of the Military" and it has to stop.  Quit trying to be the police.

Go back to camo BDU's, tanks, and Arty.   This is completely shameful.  Those shields were developed for civilian SWAT teams and are just not needed in the military.

Next thing you know they will want Laser Radar, flex cuffs, and ticket books.

Prior to 06 MEUs were declared special operations capable based on the predeployment  certification to do 22 specific special operations missions sets.  Starting in 07, the designation only applied to a MEU that had a Marine Special Operations Company embarked with it

What SRT does would be considered one or even two of the 22 special operations missions, but since they do them in support of Marine Corps bases I don't think any one to include their program manager at PP&O would say they are "special operations capable"

So the MEU's with BN Recon platoons don't qualify as MEU(SOC) unless there's an MSOB detachment?

No, even when the MEU SOC designation went away the BLT still got a recon platoon.  What was stood up in 09 was revitalization of the maritime raid force with the embarkation of a Force Platoon to conduct certain levels of VBSS but they no longer are MEU SOC with the MSOC
