Ms. Notrega has had Cookie, the miniature schnauzer, for 14 years and 3 months. I have only known Cookie for the last 5 years and she has been a great dog, even in her old age. She is now blind and deaf as well as losing most of her hair.
When we first started dating I was aghast that the poor pooch didn't have a proper bed. She slept on the couch and or the bed. I made a big deal of getting a proper bed for her and Ms. Notrega said it was like the scene in the Blindside. Ms. Notrega is pretty torn up about it, of course, but knows that it is time. Tomorrow we will take her to the family vet and then out to some family property for burial. Today is also our 4 year wedding anniversary... I have never had to put an animal down like this until we took in a friend's 18 year old cat last year and we had to have it put to sleep after a stroke. This sucks.... |

Damn. Any pics of Cookie? All to soon I will have to make this same decision with my 15 1/2 year old mini dachshund Little Bit.

being you can't replace a good friend, you'll just have to get you another
|
|
Sorry to hear about it.
Never an easy thing, nor should it be. |
|
Sorry to hear that.
I recently had to put down my 13 year old. She was completely infested with heartworms and the medication was not helping. Also she was having hip problems and had trouble getting up and walking. She was such a sweet buddy and I hated to do it, but she was in too much pain and it was the right decision. |
|
Sorry to hear it man.
Losing a good pooch, wrenches and twists off a chunk of your soul. Having to put one down, even at the tail end of a good life, knowing it's the right thing to do, just adds guilt on top of the loss. It sucks like nothing else. Hang in there. |
|
Sorry bro.
When you are both ready for another dog, consider rescuing a pitbull. |
|
I had to put down Sonia, my 16 yr. old Sheltie.
She was the sweetest dog I ever had. It is hard to lose a pet, as they are your friend that always loves you. |
|
when I put my border collie to sleep I kept her Frisbee... it sits on a shelf and its sad to see it but it reminds me of all the good times we hade... hope that could help op sry for you hard times
|
|
Ms. Notrega won't let me take any pics of her because she doesn't want to remember her that way... we have some older pics of her as a pup and adult that I will post tomorrow...

Had to put Duke down in June of '99. He was almost 15. I keep his last tag on my key ring.

I put Bailey, my best friend for 13 years down last year. Tough, very tough. The whole process is peacefull and painless. Be there with Cookie, she will know you are there and she will not want to do this alone. Sorry for your family's loss.

One of the hardest things you'll ever have to do.
I have three cats buried in my back yard. Been there. Done that. It sucks. I'm sorry. |
|
My pup went on her last journey last Saturday
It was very hard I'm sure she will greet yours at the bridge to wait for us |

View Quote Prayers sent out. Loosing a loyal dog is a painful thing to be had. My 2 mean more to me than anything else I have or own. |
|
It sucks. It sucks, it sucks, it sucks. Good on the vet for coming out to the car & it looks like you picked a fine spot for her to rest.
I'm sorry for your loss. |

View Quote Oh man...sorry to hear that OP. |

I'm so sorry.
It's the hardest and most unjust thing that our dogs have such short lifespans. Loving them is so easy. Losing them is so brutal. |
|
Sorry to read that!
It is a damned shame that mans(womans) best friend will almost always pass first! |
|
Thanks for all of the thoughts, posts, and prayers. Ms. Notrega said to tell all of you thank you very much...
Our great dane and cats are all moping around... doesn't help... |

My brother had to put down his buddy Bruschi this past March. His back legs just quit working, and being a hundred pound lab, you need back legs. I live in an inlaw style building on his property, and my dog and his dog were best friends. I insisted that he brought Connie over to see Bruschi off. The vet came to his house, and administered the shot in the living room, where Big Brusk, was happy, comfortable, and surrounded by people who loved him. Including his buddy, Connie.
She misses him a lot, especially when we fire up the firepit in the backyard, but I think it's better that she knows what happened. Again, very sorry for your loss op.(And I'm one of "Notregas Retards, btw) " /> |

I'm sorry for your loss
Both of the dogs in my avatar are gone now and I miss then every day. |
|
Sorry for your loss. It's never an easy thing to do. I had to put my 19 YO cat down thanksgiving night.
