That's damn pretty
I'd love to shoot that ....congrats , and enjoy |

I have to say, I agree with you. If they sold that gun, I'd probably go get one.

Sweet! Is it a hunter or just a plinker? View Quote Just a plinker really but I do keep it in a electronic safe right where I can reach it from my bed. I kinda rotate that duty between my Glock 21 and this. If I could ever sell my place to get more land I'd like to decimate a hog or two with it though. I like the Elmer Keith load of 22gr 2400 behind a 250gr or 240gr SWC (depending what I have). I wish I could get some H110 to play with though. |

Oh how I miss my Ruger Super Redhawk 7.5". Best range day ever. Parked it next to a group shooting an sks at the 50yr range. Giggle and quiet pointing ensued. They left after the first trip down range to check groupings. Big holes, grouped to gather in a small area, and an aw inducing BANG sending the fury down range.

Pants...so...tight.
I've always wanted to do that with one. So what was the total outlay excluding the price of the host gun if you don't mind? Just curious, have you weighed it yet? I predict it will come in around 45-47 oz. |

It is for shortening the frame extension, fitting the barrel, delettering, action job, new sights, new firing pin and misc parts. I know there is a point of diminishing returns but I got what I want so I don't care. I'll weigh it after work tomorrow. |

That is the .44 that Ruger should have been making all along.

If I ever make it back up to Yellowstone, mor go to Alaska, I would feel compelled to pack a .44 magnum. I can't shoot one for shit, but it would be cool to open carry a solid revolver like that.

Fuckin' thing's a revolver. Are you a cowboy?

Looks great!
Long firing pin and extra power hammer spring isn't going to be a problem? I'm not really up on these guns. |

I just got my Alaskan back from being turned into a GP44. I'm one of those sick bastards that prefer Ruger revolvers. To me the double action with Wolff Springs feels better than a stock Smith. The single action not as good but at 3.5lbs it is still very good. From my limited experience with 2 different 629 ' s and a 66 using Wolff power rib mainsprings in them would result in frequent light primer strikes with everything but Federal primers. They felt amazing but were not trustworthy. My Super Redhawk pictured here has a 12lb hammer spring and 12lb return spring. So I didn't drop the spring weights much but is enough to make it feel better than a stock Smith to me. Bowen did an action job so it is really smooth now. He actually put heavier than stock springs in which made it a smooth but heavy pull. I put the Wolff spring back in as it will set off the hardest primers with them like Tula. He adds a longer firing pin as well so ignition should be even better though I've never had a misfire. I am not a fan of a Redhawks single spring design but have always loved my Super Redhawk Alaskan. I wanted a longer barrel though after a while but Super Redhawks are just so butt ugly. So I decided cost was no concern and sent my Alaskan to Bowen with a 5.5" Redhawk barrel. I think it is the ULTIMATE .44 but that's just my opinion. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo210/Subsonic_81/Mobile%20Uploads/20150115_202632_zpscb0554e6.jpg [http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo210/Subsonic_81/20150115_202655_zps3a8accf2.jpg http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo210/Subsonic_81/Mobile%20Uploads/20150115_195343_zpsbff3eddb.jpg View Quote You musta uploaded the wrong picture, that is a ruger. |

And you can actually load out the cartridge to make it sing like a proper magnum. You load up a Smith with really really hot stuff and KB's will result. Rugers will outlast a S&W. And you can actually load out the cartridge to make it sing like a proper magnum. You load up a Smith with really really hot stuff and KB's will result. BS if the cartridges are loaded to SAAMI spec a 629 will run just as long as a Ruger Red Hawk with out a problem. On top of that the S&W will be lighter and have a better trigger (out of the box or after trigger jobs). A 4.2 inch Ruger Redhawk weighs 47oz where a 4 inch 629 with similar barrel profile only weights 41.5 oz. |

I don't know about "ultimate", but that's a damn fine six shooter.
