looking into a Rock Island 9mm 1911 GI model

saw one at the LGS and while totally useless it just looks kinda neat

What do I need to know about 9mm 1911's? Who makes quality mags for them?

I almost bought a used STI 9mm last week.  I bought a Glock 19 instead.

I bought the Rock Island tactical model to transition my daughter to 9mm. No recoil and shoots great. Very reliable. I use Wilson mags but the factory mags are fine.

I bought one of the Citadel's (made by Rock Island) from Buds when they had them for $329. Unbelievable gun for that price. Virtually no recoil, super nice trigger, and has not had any issues in the 300 rounds I've put through it so far. I was skeptical at this price but it's really impressive.

I've had a few, great guns, very little recoil and cheap to shoot!

Friend of mine has one. I've shot it, it's fun. Recoil-wise it's like a loud .22LR.

In thinking about a 3" 9mm but it's almost too dirty for me

Not sure if it would be reliable or not

Tuned up two RIA 9mm Tacticals and ran them thru Front Sight with my son.

Both were GTG.

I had a Colt Combat Commander, awesome shooter, very reliable and accurate.

Stupid gun though. Too heavy for the caliber and capacity. I traded it for an M1 and I'm a 1911 guy.

My Springfield EMP in 9mm is my favorite handgun. Does that count as a real 1911?

I have a kimber ultra carry II in 9mm.

Immediately after purchase it was a piece of shit.  At the time, Kimber had some issues with their 9mm pistols. I sent it in and they fixed it (extractor) under warranty.  Ever since then, it's been absolutely flawless - I love it now.

1911 should be 45 ACP, or 38 super.

Actually I think the 1911 reached perfection when chambered in 9x23.

I am building one for myself.

Of course I haven't actually worked on it in months.  So the .45 will have to do for now.

PS I have two cases of 9x23 ammo.

Got a STI Trojan in 9mm with a highly modified trigger.  Absolutely love that gun, its hyper accurate, barely any recoil, and very very reliable too.  I use the Tripp mags in it.

9x23 and 10mm should be all the 1911 comes in.

It's so damn big and heavy it shoots very powerful ammo very well.

Colt Series 70 9mm, use either OEM Colt mags or Mec-Gar's which are extremely high quality. [I have a LOT of Mec Gars, I got a deal on them for $6 each several years ago so I bought a ton of them]

It's fun to have different calibers in the 1911 family, .22, .38 spl, 9mm and .45 are what I own.

I've got a S&W 1911 in 9mm.

It's crap.

It recoils less than a 1911 in 45, but the 41oz metal 1911 has more noticeable recoil than my polymer-framed 24oz M&P. It's also got inconsistent ejection issues. Sometimes it will eject cleanly to the right, sometimes it will dribble the case onto the rear sight to jam between the hammer and frame, and sometimes it will chuck the case at your forehead with enough force to draw blood.

Star Model B Super is a better choice. I can shoot either 9mm P or Largo out of it.

Same with the military version with extra 9mm P barrel.

those are pretty neat and would go good with my Spanish Destroyer Carbine in 9x19

however how hard are spare mags and spare parts to come by

I have shot the following in my 38 Super 1911.

9x23 Win
9x23 Largo
9x19 Luger
38 Super
38Super Comp
380 Auto

All from the same magazine and the same barrel. Have even mixed calibers in the same magazine.

Not recommended, but it does work, except 380 won't cycle the slide.

i just picked up one of these:

https://us.armscor.com/products/tcm-22-vz-fullsize

I have not shot it yet.  I will tomorrow.  I plan to run both the TCM ammo and 9mm through it.  My first impressions are;
it is built well and it is HEAVY !  I am on the lookout for spare mags.  It does not take standard TCM mags due to the magwell.

You could always get the combo and sell the .22TCM barrel. I've wanted the combo for a while now, but more for the 9mm barrel. .22TCM will be a fun side project to mess with, not sure I'd trust it for serious purposes.

I got one of the RIA 9mm 1911s when PSA had them for $350 with a $50 mail in rebate. In fact, I got the rebate last week.

I haven't shot it yet. Been a weird couple months getting the house ready to sell and such. Then weather. Meh.
