I got bored today and decided to hit the range with a few of my toys. As I was leaving I noticed a large piece of lead a buddy gave me a few years ago to make bullets with and an idea was born. I want to see what today's guns with today's ammo will do to this chunk of lead. Here are the results.

First up was my 16" AR shooting plain vanilla 55gr ball ammo.

Pretty impressive.

Next was my AK shooting Monarch/Brown Bear 123 gr ball ammo.

And finally a round of Speer 124+P Gold dot.

Pretty cool looking.  If you ever come FTF with the T-1000 you will be ready to kick some ass

I almost forgot this pic. 20 rounds out of the AK. The lead block was warm after being hit with 20 rounds. It actually had steam/smoke coming from it.

Neat how the "energy dump" manifested itself into heat.

Physics FTW.

Thanks for sharing OP.

I have another one of these blocks. Next time I want to try Chinese steel core 7.62 and some SS109 5.56 and see the difference compared to todays rounds.

Haha, I was nervous!!!!! I was just hoping I could get the hit fairly centered. I actually hit center with the AK. The AR shot went high.

Fact, this is why AK's cost more than AR's.

Just melt the old one down and form it into any shape you can find a mold for. It seems like the perfect regenerative target. Melt them both and make a silhouette plate.

Nowhere near that. I would guess 35-40 pounds. If I get a chance I'll weigh the other one and see.

Some people of this world are oppressed and do not own 308s.

Now that is a pic I would like to see, but the high speed video I would LOVE to see.

The only .308 ammunition I have is loaded with 150gr softpoints as it is my deer rifle. Would that suffice?

I was going to do the same thing with a similar chuck of lead, just to see what a 300gr round nose, out of my .375 H&H, would do. Never got around to it.

Guess I could try the 8mm-06 on it, though.

Should of weighed it first then shot it to see if you added or removed lead.
