I was just listening to the radio and WYDOT announced all seasonal roads are now closed for the season (this includes mostly state highways in mountain passes).
I assume Alaska, and other Rocky Mountain States deal with this as well. Any of you other guys have seasonal road closures? |

When you get up further in NH there are some seasonal roads that are nice shortcuts in the summer, but have gates on either end and get shut off in the winter.

View Quote Yeah that's pretty much the deal here, but they are scattered throughout Wyoming due to the amount of different mountain ranges throughout the state.

In WV the Forest Service closes some roads, the rest are travel at your own risk during the winter. |

Utah. I got stuck going the long way to Park City a couple years ago cause seasonal roads were still closed, in July.

Yeah Washington has a couple of passes that close yearly, Highways 410 and 20 IIRC
ETA highway 123 also. I didnt know about it until I looked it up, never have driven it |

The road to Clingman's Dome in East Tennessee gets closed. I'm sure there are a few others..

NH also has a few roads I'm familiar with that are open year round, but usually have a simple single word sign that says "MUD".
If you drive a non 4WD vehicle down them in March or April, and it's above freezing, you may be calling a tow truck. |

Michigan has lots of seasonal roads once you head up north a bit.

Pretty much any road that doesn't have residences or businesses on it is closed around December 1st. Some of the higher ones close earlier, some don't open until July/August.

A few that I know of. Loveland pass isn't seasonal but it close quite often in the winter.
Getting to A-basin sucks when that happens. |

We have seasonal roads, mainly on state land
They become snowmobile trails in the winter There are other seasonal roads that cross unpopulated land that towns wont maintain in the winter Those are shrinking in number with houses being built up on formerly unoccupied land |

We have a lot in New York. Most are in the Adirondacks with a few in the Catskills and elsewhere. Many become snowmobile trails in winter.

Yep, a bunch of passes over the Sierras get closed every year basically because they don't want to plow them of snow. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

The roads in the back country are travel at your own risk year round.

Yep they always change too they close them for road construction in the summer

During break up or mud season depending on who is talking, I had to go pick up my ammo packages at a local bar that was over 10 miles away. UPS and Fedex couldn't deliver off the beaten track.

Around here the National Forest 25 road that runs up the east side of St Helens get's closed in the winter until June. I was just up there yesterday and the gate was still open. From a couple years ago, the snowmobilers make a snow ramp over the gate. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/v/t1.0-9/p180x540/580481_2662005206608_580348636_n.jpg?oh=d10bbab8f682a54b7d705515a80393f3&oe=551CFA29&__gda__=1426820156_b42fb8fd0686889ee624a8e4d5e6b82d View Quote Where's the 2WD w/locker that's just as good as 4WD? |

Bear Tooth Highway and Going to the Sun road, plus a bunch that either get closed, travel at your own risk / no winter maintenance.
