That sucks, but I still can't comprehend why the hell people go hiking in bear country unarmed.

Bear awareness includes the cute black ones that " supposedly " dindu nuthin.

The saying is you don't have to be able to outrun the bear, just the people your with proves true in this instance. |

Know your place on the food chain, realize what got you there, and apply it. After a few times of getting "lucky" I don't go into the woods without some type of firearm. If they don't allow them there, I don't go there.

I'm surprised no one's piped in to tell us how this story is unpossible - since black bear don't kill/eat people!
Yeah. I'm sure someone'll be along shortly . . . ETA: "kill" has a "k"! LOL |
|
I guess we're going to have to gather up all the bears and have them attend a "people awareness" class.
Once the bears are aware, that will stop those large carnivorous beasts from attacking unarmed people out in the woods. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

You know, supposedly there is a way to get those in NY but I have never seen anyone do it. At a minimum I think I would have skeddadled rather than taking five pictures of a black bear. I did have a black bear tear apart my campsite once as a teenager. I actually woke up, saw the bear from the lean to I was sleeping in and went back to sleep We had our food WAY up in a tree in a bear bag. But looking back there may have been a lack of discpline about dishes/trash etc that attracted him |

We need to start a conversation about this. We need to have a dialogue. This bear violence won't end until more people are informed.

You have to just kneel and accept the oncoming death, be it from a person with misguided morals (the word criminal is illegal as well) or a bear. |

The only reason humans are at the top of the food chain is because we invented weapons.
Take away the weapons and, not so much. |

And then I'm like, "But 9mm is fine to go innawoods on the East Coast..." And then I see... "300 pound bear" ... And I'm like... Man, I should buy a Glock 20... |
