Looking for a no-frills .308 bolt action. Don't want to spend a mint. Something with a detachable non-proprietary magazine never hurts.

Less than $500. Main use is a range toy and SHTF. Not really a hunter.

Good luck on a non proprietary detachable mag at that level.

Savage Hog Hunter has my vote though.

Finding used might open up your options.

Been thinking of parting with my Rem 700 PSS with detachable mag. Never been fired.

Magazine is detachable but also proprietary.

For that price range Savage is probably your best bet, might be able to find a used 700, I heard the 700 ADL Varmints from Dicks are nice but they are frowned on around here.

Yeah but how much will it cost for a new stock, bottom medal and gunsmith work?

lol.

Yeah, when rainbow sherbet shoots out my ass.

Detachable mag (non proprietary) and under 500 bucks?

You might get close with a Ruger scout, but that'll be almost $900 full retail $800 if you're lucky.

savage hog hunter ,  threaded barrel , iron sights , drilled for scope and very accurate. lots of after market stocks , change it to a DBM if you want. Barrel change is easy .  love mine , and its well under 1 moa .

Decent rifle, but doesn't have a detachable magazine AFAIK.

Ruger American Predator or Standard     they take a proprietary 4 round rotary magazine

Redfield comes with a scope $680 MSRP

Mossberg MVP 308 Takes M14 and SR-25 Pattern Mags (Magpul, DPMS etc) $729 MSRP street price is lower

A tad over budget, but I have one and it is sub MOA ( with my reloads).

Savage 10FP-SR

Sub moa out of the box, accutrigger, free floated barrel...threaded barrel for when I move out of NY.

No detachable mag...but I don't see the point for a long range bolt gun.

Go find a Remington 700 ADL or SPS, or something like that.

If you change your mind you can always yank out the action and go full custom on it.

Spanish FR-8.  Lightweight, accurate, short and handy.  Uses a military action, has a charger guide, and has a diopter rear sight.  Also has a flash suppressor/rifle grenade spigot.  They are nice rifles and can be had for under $500 quite readily.

I've been looking at the predator for a nice little coyote gun. Seems like a good inexpensive option.
