Well I hate to tell you this, but it's almost 50 years old. Surprised it still runs. I think around here people get about $1000 for them and they seller pays shipping.

I'll take it.

For a 289? I am wondering if you realize the bottom dropped out of the classic car market.

Does the VIN start with 5F09A ?
65 Fastback w/289 4 BBL should be 5 F 09 A...5 year 65 F Dearborn 09 Fastback A 289 4 BBL
Auto or stick 3 or 4 spd
is it a GT?
Pony interior?
Mags or Hub caps?
5 - 30K

Not as much as you think.

19-32K depending on condition and pedigree.

Original numbers matching but without any special motor options probably 25K.

15k-25k depending on a close inspection.  Been in the game for 40 years.....

i dunno, but i've built a few of those 289s and they aren't bad motors at all, given you use decent pistons.  and those 4 speeds are HEAVY AS FUCK.

Per Hagerty's guide, a plain fastback Mustang with the 225hp 289 goes for around $25k.  A Mustang GT with the 225hp 289 goes for around $30k.  A Mustang GT with the "K-Code" HiPo 271hp 289 goes for over $42k.

From the photos, the tach and speedometer indicate it's a Mustang GT, but no steering column mounted gauge cluster says it isn't a K-Code car.  So you're looking at a $30,000 car if it's in good shape and you find a buyer who really wants it.

That said, if you want to sell and I hit the MegaMillions tonight I'll be contacting you next week.

uh 289 was the only factory offered v8 motor. there is still interest in "real" muscle cars. clones and ect, yes the
bottom dropped out. let me know when the bottom falls out of the factory super birds, daytonas, and other hemi car
market.

op beautiful mustang, i love white, enjoy it before you sell it.

Interested in the answers. I've got a '65 wimbledon white 2+2 fastback, K-Code 4-speed. K-Code is the solid lifter high performance engine, pretty rare.

Appears to be a 65 with deluxe interior. The seats were probably reupholstered incorrectly as they would have had "pony" seats. An original GT car would have fog lights in the grill, the GT Exhaust rear valance, dual exhaust etc. The only 65 mustangs with center, circular speedos were GTs and Deluxe cars. The cluster may have been swapped out with a 66 cluster but that would require modifications to the dash.

It amazes me how arfcom knows nearly everything. Despite our dysfunctionality, there really are a lot of great resources here.

Wrong about the market dropping out. Prices corrected them selves, just like in housing. Collector cars were overvalued, still worth decent money today, especially if you-re not in a hurry to sell.

I'd guess that the gauge cluster was replaced. Deluxe (aka Pony) interior would have also wood-grain insert on dash and glove box door, and would also have different door panels and steering wheel.

Here's what the door panels look like for the Deluxe interior, followed by the a shot of the wheel with dash. (Pics stolen from the net; I wrecked my Deluxe interior '65 many moons ago. )
