Damn, they must have taken them off recently.  They had 80% lowers on there labeled as "paperweights."

What's your experience with these?  What tools did you use?

This was done with a drill press, x-y vise, jig and some cheap end mills from amazon.

My understanding is the Anderson lowers don't have a hole for the bolt catch roll pin, so that is an extra step that will need to be drilled.  I believe Tactical Machining has a special deal on right now with an 80% lower and an upper receiver for $80.  I would buy from them if I was buying this week.

A $400 Craigslist Grizzly mill  that just needed cleaning and collets.

Works great.

Upper is added in the drop down box for $29.

The first jig I used was from SNA (part of the crowd funding they did), they supplied a very crappy jig that was different from what they had advertised.  It sucked.

This one doesn't look too bad:

I just looked at the Anderson and Tactical Machining 80%ers in my safe.  Anderson is indeed missing the hole for the bolt catch buffer and spring (not the roll pin hole), but the TMs are missing the whole takedown pin pocket in front of the buffer tube threads.  That pocket is a much more critical machining operation since it holds the upper receiver from moving and centers it over the lower.

Get the Andersons and drill the bolt catch buffer/spring hole.

I would agree with getting a Tactical Machining at this time as they are Cerro Forge lowers and they are on sale. You can also get the anodized version for $5 more. If you use the older Easy Jig with this, the Anderson, or any other standard forged lower you will have to do some machining of the jig to get the bolt catch area to fit. They make a more universal Easy Jig now so that probably wouldn't need the modifications.

Tactical Machining 80% lower review

Here's a video on YouTube of the Easy Jig in use.

I have two. Went together fine. The rear takedown hole was already drilled with a small pocket machines out. They didn't drill the hole for the bolt release spring. Besides that, same as any other 80%.

I have a Sherline mini mill with DRO and a grip of tooling.

The bolt release roll pin was drilled on mine. It was the bolt release spring hole that wasn't.

Just think of it as an expensive paper weight.

Then you'll be happier with yourself.
