I grew up in a very clean house, both in terms of clutter and physical cleanliness.  I find it's a constant battle to keep horizontal surfaces free from objects collecting there.  Around here, at least, you would think it's a law of thermodynamics.  I'm sure it's much easier to accomplish in a household without children.

OK, I'm using a photo from the show Hoarders to illustrate my point.  It's an extreme example.  But I think the Fourth Law of Thermodynamics holds true for most people.
