I wouldn't. Some mushrooms can be classified by sight, but I believe only a microscope can truly verify a mushroom.

Looks like a giant puffball. If it is, cut it in half and if it is pure white it is actually pretty good. They start turning color in the middle pretty quick as they start producing spores.

My barber told me a story about him signing up for a seminar on wild mushroom gathering given by some expert. He later got a call saying it was canceled because the "expert" got deaded,,,,,, from eating toxic mushrooms.
