I used to not like "jazz".

I've been listening to "The Band" a lot lately and love the horns used in their music.
I guess it just took me a while to figure out which TYPE of jazz I like.
After a quick bit of research I have found that I really like New Orleans/Creole jazz from the early '50's.

My favorite so far is Kid Ory without a doubt!

Any other aficionados of this genre?

I've got my two year old on a Rag Time kick right now.  He loves Scott Joplin.

I took a jazz history course as a "sleeper" course in college guaranteed to put an A on my transcript.  Turned out to be one of the best classes I've taken.  It lead me to a whole world of music I may not have otherwise considered.  It also got me points with my father-in-law (girl friend's father at the time) as he's in a swing band that plays big band stuff.

One of my favorites:

Coltrane and Parker.... everything else is a waste of my time.

Dave Brubeck, Take Five; you'd have to be deaf not to like it.

The jazz that I like best is from the late 50s. Modal jazz.

I also took a course in college. It was fun!
