I can't find my friggin' XP Pro disk, so I might have to buy another disk. Should I stick with XP or spend the extra cash for Windows 7? Computer is hella old, 2gb RAM, good video card, but that's about it.

Why do you need another disk for XP?
If all you're doing is GIMP and old games I wouldn't spend extra for 7 personally. But I would consider disconnecting the PC from the internet. |

Order a refurbished Dell with win 7 from walmart. It will probably be cheaper than trying to buy win 7. Hold out on spending big money till win 9 or whatever they call it is out. |

If you're as cheap as I am, shop the big box stores that sell computers for floor model closeouts. I picked up a nice Lenovo for a fraction of the cost at Staples.

Problem is, the PC crashes before I can launch things. It keeps coming up with "Windows just recovered from a serious error" and then in goes black and reboots. It's FUBAR'd. Best I can hope for is to get a new XP Pro disk, install it on the old HD, use my newer HD as a slave, so I can keep all my old porn files.

I'd switch off of XP purely because of the security risk. Microsoft stopped supporting XP (and thus, stopped releasing security related patches) around last July or so.
