I would like to prep and am beginning some basic ones, basically I'm trying to become more minimalist.

Somewhat, I prep for what's likely to happen.  Living in the country lends itself to the idea of being prepared to a point.  I have alternative means of heat, getting water, cooking and enough food to last a couple months.   We lose power for several days to a week or more about 1 out of every 10 winters.

As do I. What is this "prepping" so many speak about?

I keep it trimmed up but I don't regularly use scented products down there or anything.

I'm preparing to prep. Eventually I'll get around to it.

I could probably survive a 4 hour power outage. Any longer than that and I'll lose my shit from videogame withdrawls and the inability to produce popcorn.

I have a bottle of hot sauce, a .22 with 9rds, a .38 with 6 rds, two rolls of toliet paper and a bag of chips.

I can hold out and provide for my family for at least 30 days WITH NO OUTSIDE help / resupply  AND KEEP it barring a state actor being the party trying to take whats mine

If I have to move I can provide for my family for at least 2 weeks

As far is end of the world type shit I have 4 kids aged 15-7  can't really be mobile and protect so shelter in place is the rule of the day

Prep level: Mormon.

There is always something that can be improved/added to.

The best-prepared are probably those who already live off-grid...

Even on the family farm in Idaho... No electricity = no pumps, no water.

No gas = no tractors, no harvest.

But it's deep into nowhere, and they have silos full of grain, chickens, horses, and lots of guns and ammo.

But... Without electricity, they can only hand-pump enough water for personal use, no heavy farming... It's a high desert...

For what   I keep about 55-100 Gal on hand but I have 7+ tractors that use it

for long term fuel I put my bets on propane

have 750 Gal on tap and the only thing I use it for is  hot water and cooking and if needed electricity

Not as much as I like...  I have lived through a number of disasters and they suck.

I could last a couple of weeks at home without too much trouble.  Have the ability to deass the area in a number of different methods from flying to sailing.

I don't

A better way of stating it would be
I am equipped mentally and otherwise to keep whats mine from any and all that don't have air support or legitimate authority and access to reinforcements

I would be good a long time barring looters or Marshall Law bullshit.  Our whole 90,000 acre irrigation project is gravity, except for a few

I don't expect to survive a nuclear holocaust but if there's an Ebola break out or something I'm prepared for my family to spend at least a couple of months without having to leave the homestead.  I think that's pretty good.

I should clarify

I have a good month in place without the kids bitching about "I don't want to eat that "

Honestly at least 6 months without me taking resupply measures

on any given day there is at least 1000lbs of protein that could be taken at night that walks within 50 yards of my home

I have a stock tank and salt lick for deer and elk that I could sit in my kitchen and slide the window open and bang

No excuse for that sir. Every time you go to the grocery store just throw in a single can of spam and a single can of baked beans. After a couple of years you will be stocked up big time with easy food on the cheap.

I`ve been adding about $5 in can goods,tp,toothpaste and many other things to our regular shopping trips for a long time. The pile is pretty high. As for meat I can shoot a deer any day I want and we live on our own 10 acre lake with essentially unlimited fresh fish. Our garden is good but small. One of the things that I have been working on is spare parts for any machinery I feel is mandatory to remain operational. Diesel storage tank is on my list. Ammo fort is fine along with a pair of 650`s and a ton of primers, powder, brass and projos.

The big deal is going to be electricity. We have a natural gas standby set up ( whole house) but it is useless if our gas supply is cut off. I have a 10KW gas genset but after a while ( 1-2 years) I suspect my fuel will go bad. I have been looking around for a diesel gen set on the .gov site but I think those sales have been suspended. I may have to buy a new one.

In general we are set except for my blood pressure medicine.

Are there any preps that gay people need that straight people would overlook?

Serious question....I don't know any gay people.  At least I don't think I do.
