Around here they work as gate guards to oil leases.
Had one lazy fuck tell me to quit honking, and to not let myself through the gate anymore. I told him we were on down time at $2000/hour and I needed to get to the damn rig. He said he was waiting for two or three vehicles so that he did not have to keep getting out in the heat. 
One killed all the snakes around his trailer and was pretty impressed with himself, but he was pissed about all the mice that were running around now. |

Live in rural PA. NYC is just under 90 minutes, NJ is 20 minutes away.
My area used to be a rural, farmland haven. The last of the old farmers and landowners passed away about 20 years ago..Since than the area has been overrun by NJ transplants and NY transplants who have moved in and bought land and built houses on the former farmland. Throughout the past 10-15 years these people have shut down two rifle ranges, a trap range and made life very difficult for backyard plinkers and ATV riders. |

PA and we have gotten a fair amount of NY refugees recently, but 95% of them are from Upstate not NYC and they came here to get away from the New York state of mind (I've heard a bunch of them say "That fucking SAFE act..." at some point when talking about why they left NYS) rather than to bring it with them so they're good to go. The smart money is on the other 5% not lasting more than one winter. When they ask "What is this Lake Effect Snow stuff people talk about?" it's a good indicator that they're probably from closer to NYC than Buffalo and just gonna have a grand time come January. The fact that we won't tell them what it is but just grin and laugh evilly doesn't make them feel any better either I'm sure...  The Poconos seems to draw the wrong sort from NY and NJ though and has for years. I blame that annoying as shit "Beautiful Mt. Airy Lodge" commercial they used to run incessantly on WPIX in the '80s. I was talking to my state rep not too long ago and suggested that he introduce a bill to authorize blowing the bridges across the Delaware, he said he wished he could but the Feds would probably sue us or something so it'd be a no go...for now. |
