Does anyone know if this has actually gone to court, or is it just an ATF opinion?

The selector rotated, but it was just a lower and wasn't drilled. Those were the only 2 parts.

Set up for DIAS?

And I'd the ATF gets takes it.to the lab they could run it with light primers and try to get a hammer follow and call it a machine gun.

Nope. The ATF already has it, and a pistol upper,  that wasn't attached,  and a stock that wasn't attached.  Pos of MG charge already happened.  I'm just curious as to whether there's a precedent or if it's just an ATF interpretation.

Technical violation.  M16 fcg in an AR lower can be pushed to "auto" if fired you can get a hammer follow. With poorly seated primers or light primers it will follow fire, thus more than one round with one trigger pull.

Which means it is illegal for me to borrow my buddies lower even without the DIAS in it.

They will use federal commercial .223 ammo and that set up may run off 2-30 rounds at a time. That is a bad set up based in whatB2B I have seen in court cases.

M16A1 FCG in my A2.  A few years ago APEX gun parts had these FCG's for $45 to include the auto sear and pin.  I had the parts modified to semi auto and sold off the auto sear.

Edit:  These were great parts for installing in Retro rifles because the parts were a grey parkerized color and not black for that "authentic" look.

Correct, remove the red portion and now parts are semi auto.

I know people that thought the M16 hammer trigger gave a better feel....

Cut the hook off the tail of the hammer & the extended part of the disconector..

The ran regular AR safety's......IIRC, you have to add material to the M16 selector, so it won't rotate into the 3 position............

I'm no legal type, but there's no way they could test your weapon and find you had a machinegun.  Without the third pin (or DIAS) it's just another semi with a selector switch that moves a little more.

I know I have an M16 hammer in one of my lowers. It's nothing but a heavier semi hammer with nothing else in there that could make it go F/A.

With nothing but an M16 hammer and selector? How is that even mechanically possible? How would you get hammer follow if everything else is installed correctly?

All he had, IIRC, was an M16 selector......... It's simple... Free floating firing pin & light enough primers.......equal......

Slam fire...... There are some small rifle primers that shouldn't be used in a AR........

The problem was a M16 selector & a Rifle that would double sometimes..... IIRC, the first time they tested it it wouldn't......

Then they got some ammo with light primers & got it to........ If he had taken it to a gunsmith, it would have been a broken Rifle....

Yep.

Hey OP.  Is it ONLY hammer and selector?  If it had AR15 trigger and disco (most importantly the AR15 disco) then it cannot have hammer follow down, and should not be able to go "full typewriter".   Still don't know about any other tech branch shenanigans, but light primers won't do it in this case.

Did it have ALL M16 fire control, or JUST hammer & selector?

Where is Bladerunner?  Does arfcom not allow MG felons back?  It says he only did 30 months, and this was five years ago.

Maybe he can't be on gun boards?

He posted the story back in the day but I don't know if it was before or after prison, I thought it was after.

If i had a rifle that had doubled on me,  the only person getting it after that would be a gunsmith that knows more shout fa than I do.

Where is Bladerunner?  Does arfcom not allow MG felons back?  It says he only did 30 months, and this was five years ago.

I would pull the whole lower apart, give it a new lpk, test with a second upper, then test with the first upper.  Old lpk goes in the trash. Even buying a new high end trigger and parts kit is cheaper than consulting with a lawyer.
