I heard Richard Hoagland talking about this the other morning.

"I am basically coming to the conclusion that the $15 billion we're spending in NASA is not the real space program. It's window dressing. The real space program is being run by other folks—maybe even from another continent for purposes that the American people haven't a clue about"

I don't quite get the significance of disguising the fact that the Martian sky is blue.  Could somebody explain why it is important for NASA to alter imagery so that Mars appears different than it really is?

Did some big-shot scientist stick his foot in his mouth by making predictions on what Mars would look like, when he had no freakin' clue?  Can this "conspiracy" be whittled down to a simple (but sadly, very frequent) occurence of the arrogance of science?




I swear, scientists are the priests of the modern era, more interested in maintaining their own "power" than disseminating knowledge to the masses.
