Is an AR-15 an AK-47?

Fock NO!

Cereal is Cereal. Oatmeal is Oatmeal.

Now...both are breakfast foods.

As both AR and AK are assault rifles.

Does that mean they are the same thing? No.

Ha!  I can tell by the way you're trying to weasel the absolute definition of "cereal" as the crispy breakfast food that comes in rectangular boxes, that you LOST your bet with your wife.

I guess we should add this:

If someone asked you, 'hey what kind of cereal do you have', would your reply be something like, cheerios, rice krispies, and oatmeal? Or would you consider cereal only as typical boxed breakfast foods?

Oatmeal? Absolutely a cereal.

Cornmeal is a cereal product, but not cereal in the breakfast sense.

hmmm...

in case Raven's definition wasn't clear enough, here is what the Merriam-Webster Collegiate edition has to say:

Function: noun
Date: 1832
1 : a plant (as a grass) yielding starchy grain suitable for food; also : its grain
2 : a prepared foodstuff of grain (as oatmeal or cornflakes)
