The NM flash suppressor has a larger hole in the far end to reduce the amount of change in the bullet's path.
Anything added to the end of a barrel changes the point of impact, the N.M. suppressor attempts to reduce that change. |

Yes. The original M14 flash suppressor has a fairly small opening, and sometimes the projectile will bump it as it leaves the muzzle and has not stabilized yet. The NM suppressor has a larger opening to prevent any interference with the exiting round.
