If you want the style and a good performer at an affordable price check out the Ollech & Wajs M4. I own one and it is simply amazing. I love watches, own a few dozen, and this watch routinely ellicits oohs and ahhs from fellow watch aficianados who swear up and down it must cost $2,000. More like $250 shipped from London.

My buddy is a die hard Rolex fan. I am trying to convince him to look at the Omega Seamaster. I would suggest you at least check them out. Great watches. |

The two tone models are actually SOLID 18K gold (not just plated)and stainless. Something you won't get in a Jap immitation Rolex.

the only Rolex worth owning is a Daytona Cosmograph
there are so many other better Swiss watches out there for the money (eg. IWC) I really want a Zenith El Primero! Any of the more common ETA or Valjoux movement brands are good stuff though [url]www.tourneau.com[/url] |

Great! that Ollech & Wajs looks mighty fine! I do want a Rolex tho they last forever, my uncle has an older one from the 60's it looks a bit rough now but damn fine for a 40 year old watch that he wears EVERY DAY. I own a Japanese er...hum 'replica' dare I say, and damn this this rocks! I beat the crap out of it and it still is pretty good for a $50 watch, its not the crappy tin ones you see in Mexico either. I just feel a little bit greasy wearing it. I need a real one!

One thing you need to know about mechanical watches. They do need to be periodically serviced (clean, lube) just like a fine car.
I have a Rolex datejust and usually just wear it until the timekeeping starts to become erratic or it fails to keep itself fully wound. Then I take it in for service. On average I have had to do this about every 10 years. |

I've got an uncle whose wife just plunked down no less than $20,000 cash (yep, they're rich) for a new Rolex for him. I'd expect closer to $30K.
I've seen this thing. It's the ugliest POS I've seen in many moons. Solid gold, black face, small diamonds where the numbers would normally go. Sorry, but the only Rolex I'd ever get would be a simple Submariner, and then only if I couldn't find an Omega I liked. BenDover is right. In my case, I could get a killer Omega and still buy a NUMBER of guns for $20K... |

Thanks for the links, its gonna take me a while to go thu all of them. gas Gaspain, the great thing about the O&W is it uses a Swiss ETA auto movement, which is one of the better movements used in watchmaking. Throw in the depth rating and the fact that the hands glow for hours at night, it is one of the best all around sport/casual wear/casual dress watches on the market. That and the fact that almost nobody has one makes it seem ever more cutting edge than it really is. I love mine! Gets far more use than any of my Tags... hell more use than all my Tags combined! |

You also may want to check out Breitling (at [url]www.breitling.com[/url].
Like most "good" watchmakers, they won't warantee it if it's not purchased from an approved distributor/outlet. Some of their watches are outright nifty (slide rule built into the bezel, etc). Expensive, yes, but when you're shopping for a good watch that'll last forever...you should be prepared to pay for it. You can buy them cheap from ebay and such, but a) you might be getting taken (who's to say it's not a fake?), b) if it ever gets damaged Breitling won't do any work on it (you'll have to pay for it; else, they handle all repair work)... Personally, I think the Breitling Navitimer Heritage is the neatest thing goin. When I save up the cash, I'm getting one :) |
