Not bad.  One of our local pawns seems to charge MSRP for used guns, so I don't shop there.  How about $699 for a used Beretta 92FS, for example? [shock]

Sounds like they'll be keeping the damn thing till it falls apart! I don't know jack squat about handguns, but come'on! $700 smackers for a USED 92?

Inspect the firearm you are interested in. Lay a reasonable amount of CASH on the counter. If he says no, take your money, say thanks and walk out. If you make it to the door, then they don't want to part with their stuff.

I'm an old hand at pawnshoping.  It is like a big Easter egg hunt.  When you find a good buy, its great!

First rule.....never pay what they ask.  If they have $500 on a gun that you think is worth $400, offer $350 taxes included.  They probably won't take it, but I've had them say "Okay".

If not, they might say, "I can't take $350, but how about $400?"  Everything in a pawn shop is overpriced on the ticket and everything is negotiable.  They think you are crazy if you don't negotiate.  Try it, you might be surprised.
I've found some great buys doing that.

I might have to check out some of the shops around here.  I'd love to find a nice .357 sometime.  I love the Rugers and some of the Smiths are nice.

Sometimes you can find real gems at pawnshops.  Haggle a little with 'em.  After all, they got the stuff for cheap offa someone, so they're making a profit even if they let you low ball them.

I picked up my mint HK USP45 with 3 mags for $300.00.

Apparently it was sitting there for awhile. In this small town, no one knew what it was.

My best pawnshop find?  A custom 1917 P-17 Enfield, 6.5-06 Douglas heavy barrel, nice custom walnut target stock, adj. trigger, nice old Weaver V-9 target scope, all for $200.  The guy had no idea what it was, and listed the serial # as 6506 (the caliber!!!)

HHMMMM. Pawn shops. A couple of years ago when I had some spending money I picked up some stuff at a pawn shop that was around the corner from work. I used to go in there a couple of days a week to look around, so they got to know me.

Let's see.
Colt MK IV   $200.00
Was missing about 75% of the bluing but functioned fine.

MAK-90  $175.00
Just dirty as hell.

NHM-91   $300.00
Just dirty

At a different pawn shop..

Daewoo DR-200  $300.00
I didn't even know what it was, but I couldn't afford the pre-ban Bushy they had for,IIRC, $875.00, so I bought it.

Another shop...

Mossberg 500  8 shot
$75.00
Has a BIG scratch on the receiver.

That's it so far. I've been BROKE for a while, but I still look. Ya never know.

Edited to add......
In the same shop that had the AK's they had three 30 rnd AK mags for sale. "Only $100.00" for all three.  Was told that someone payed out too much for them and they had to get that much.  Needless to say, that employee was no longer there.

Same here,  Ive been doing this since the late '80's and have done many awesome deals but I have also done some bad ones, oh well.  I remember buying hi-cap Glock mags for $5 back in '93-'94, a lot of Pawn dealers really did not know what was going on in the firearms world.

Thats pretty funny, theres a shop here in town that has about 10 five round AK mags marked 12.95 each, hes had them for about 7 years now.
I noticed that the 30 rd'ers were down to $8 ea. at the fun show this weekend, maybe they'll make it back down to $3 again....

I've made a few pawnshop scores in the past, but most of the shops within driving distance of Anchorage put astronomical prices on their stuff.

I have a thing for 1903 springfields.  It is amazing to see hacked up 03A3's with a 400-750 dollar price tag on it.  Cut that price in half, and then we can START talking.  Of course only the barreled action is usable.  I'm not talking NRA sporters or NM rifles, or all correct WW1 issue either.

I found a nice non-Eddystone M1917 one time with the full 26" barrel intact with most of the metal.  The GUNSMITH quickly refused an offer because he didn't want me to steal a possible jewel that might be worth a lot of money.  I saw him working on a 338 barrel to install to a 98 mauser, so he was, in theory, a gunsmith.

This was the same shop that labled every military rifle as a Springfield in 3006.  A Lee-Enfield #1 MK3 was an "Early Springfield" in 30-06.  The gunsmith said "how do you know what it is," and said he was a gunsmithing school grad.  [>:/]  Dumbass.

I still haunt the pawnshops everytime I am home, but not too many deals out there.
