never had it pickled... had it fried and that is good.... brother hates it though...says it has a texture of "snot".

Question is: How does he know the texture of eating snot?

Okra is high in gluten content, so when it is heated in any fashion, it generates "snot". Okra is best left for the gumbo pot.

I have only eaten okra battered and deep fried.
MMMMMMM! Goes great with shrimp too!

We must have five different brands of pickeled okra at Casa Arock.  And fried okra is "Texas popcorn".  We grow okra in our family garden every year to have it fresh for boiling and cooking.  Gumbo, jambalaya or okra and tomato stew.  Yeah that's some good stuff.

Once when I had plenty of time on my hands, I looked into the making of marshmallows, and learned that mallow family also includes okra.  That made sense.

A few pickled baby okra, abut the size of your little finger, are great in a salad.

Ooooh, I love fried okra -- snot and all!!  Gumbo is OK too, but I just can't bring myself to try it pickled.  I've got a jar sitting in the pantry that the in-laws gave me, but the neurons just aren't going to fire in the sequence needed to break the seal.  I'll just let my boy have it -- he loves pickled okra.

What he said. Okra is one of the best things ever. I actually know a lady that had never had okra before...and she was in her 40s at the time. What a sad existence. Of course she tried it and LOVED it.

I agree! It's the only way I can eat Okra.
Gotta be the spicy "Texas" kind tho.

Just a waste of good vinegar if you ask me...Okra is the ONE thing I can not bring myself to like....UNLESS you disguise it in some gumbo!

I've never had any Okra...

But I'm equally certain that those who have have never had a Pastrami sandwich w/a side of kishka and a side of kasha varnishkas.

Pickled okra is best with a few pickled jalapenos in the mix.

Do you know Sam's club here sells it in 80 oz jars?

Okra, of any kind, is one of the basic food groups of the Gods.

It is also one of those Southern things that most yankees don't understand.

I love it!!

Fried Okra is one of the best "Side-Veggies" you can have, in my opinion. Fried! FRIIIEEEED!!

I just had fried squash and onions as a side dish tonight, courtesy of my wife! That along with the grilled pork chops, pintos and new potatoes made for a meal fit for a king!

Okra rocks in any form!

Oh yeah, I hate beets in any form! Nasty!

Hey...I never realized...yet another benefit of living here. Almost any restraunt you go in serves okra here.

OK, I'll be the first to admit that I had to do a Google search on okra.

Lutefisk appears to be the Northern equivalent.

Now, is okra more like a chitlin, or a grit?

I'm not sure where collard greens fit in here....[>:/]

Hmm...how to describe okra...

Well...it looks sorta like a furry pepper and it tastes like yum!
